Honda HRC’s Tim Gajser continued his unstoppable form in the 2025 MXGP season, securing his fourth consecutive overall victory at the MXGP of Europe in St Jean D’Angely, France. The five-time world champion delivered another masterclass in mixed conditions, claiming a flawless 1-1 finish to extend his championship lead to 29 points after just three rounds.
Gajser’s dominance at the hillside venue was a testament to his adaptability and precision. After finishing second in Saturday’s muddy qualification race, the Slovenian star knew strong starts would be crucial on race day. As rain showers swept across the circuit, Gajser launched out of the gate in the first moto, narrowly missing the holeshot but seizing the lead by the second corner. From there, he built a comfortable gap and held off late pressure to take the chequered flag.
Race two proved more challenging, as Gajser found himself buried in the pack early on. Undeterred, the Honda CRF450R rider showcased his trademark aggression, slicing through the field with precision. By lap five, he had reclaimed the lead and pulled away from the competition, securing his fifth moto win from nine gate-drops this season.
“It was a really good weekend on a sketchy track,” Gajser said. “The rain made things difficult, but I kept things steady and got good starts, especially in race one. It wasn’t easy, but I’m very happy with how it went. I’m excited to go to Riola Sardo and the first sand race of the year. We’ve been working hard in the sand, and I’m excited to show what we’ve done.”

With a perfect 50-point haul in France, Gajser now holds a commanding lead in the championship standings, with only two riders within a Grand Prix of his points total. His performance marks one of the strongest starts to a season in his illustrious career, further cementing his status as the man to beat in MXGP.
Teammate Fernandez Faces Mixed Fortunes, it was a weekend of highs and lows for Gajser’s teammate, Ruben Fernandez. The Spaniard showed promise in race one, riding a consistent moto to finish fifth after a strong third-place performance in qualification. However, his hopes of a podium finish were dashed in race two when an unfortunate incident forced him to withdraw on the opening lap.
Thankfully, Fernandez has a weekend off to recover before the series heads to Riola Sardo, Sardinia, for the first sand race of the season. The deep sand circuit will present a fresh challenge, but Fernandez remains determined to bounce back and deliver strong results.
Meanwhile, in the MX2 class, Honda’s Valerio Lata and Ferruccio Zanchi demonstrated flashes of brilliance but left St Jean D’Angely with mixed results. Both riders scored 20 points overall, with Lata impressing in race one as he hounded the reigning MX2 world champion. Zanchi, meanwhile, shone in race two, charging through the field to secure valuable points.
The MXGP paddock now heads to the deep sand of Riola Sardo, Sardinia, for the fourth round of the championship on April 5-6. Known as one of the toughest tracks on the calendar, the sand circuit will test riders’ endurance and skill. For Gajser, it’s an opportunity to further solidify his championship lead, while Fernandez, Lata, and Zanchi will aim to make their mark in the challenging conditions.
As the 2025 season unfolds, one thing is clear: Tim Gajser and Honda HRC are firing on all cylinders, and the competition has a mountain to climb to catch them.
