Team Germany claimed victory in the men’s category while Team Europe secured the women’s title at the landmark tenth edition of the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy.

The BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2026 Romania has officially come to an end, with Team Germany winning the men’s competition and Team Europe taking top honours in the women’s category after six days of intense off-road riding across the rugged Carpathian Mountains.

Widely regarded as one of the toughest editions in the event’s history, the 2026 GS Trophy challenged riders with approximately 1,500 kilometres of demanding terrain, including narrow forest trails, rocky mountain passes, river crossings, washed-out tracks and historic high-altitude roads. More than just a race, the event once again highlighted the importance of teamwork, endurance, navigation skills and rider precision over outright speed.

A Close Battle Until the Final Challenge

The competition remained wide open heading into the final day. In the women’s standings, only two points separated Team Europe and Team International, while Team Germany held an 11-point advantage over Team Europe in the men’s competition.

Despite the pressure, both winning teams delivered composed and consistent performances when it mattered most.

Team Germany, represented by Fabian Fenner, Norman Pleissner and Florian Thomann, maintained their lead to secure victory in the men’s category with 203 points.

Meanwhile, Team Europe’s pairing of Chrissie Harcourt from Great Britain and Anja Filak from the Netherlands worked seamlessly together throughout the event to claim the women’s championship with 200 points.

Teamwork Was the Key to Victory

One of the standout stories of the 2026 GS Trophy came from the women’s competition. Despite never having met before the event, Chrissie Harcourt and Anja Filak quickly formed a strong partnership that ultimately led Team Europe to victory.

Reflecting on the achievement, Harcourt said she was overwhelmed by the experience and proud of what they accomplished together.

“I can hardly describe this feeling. My head is a little all over the place. It will take a while for it to truly sink in. I am incredibly proud of both of us,” she said.

Filak credited her teammate’s support throughout the event.

“We rode like one body, as one unit. Chrissie gave me a lot of advice, and I gained confidence because I knew I could follow her and stay focused. I took everything she taught me over these days to heart, and it worked,” she said.

One of the Toughest GS Trophy Editions Yet

The 2026 edition raised the bar in terms of both distance and technical difficulty. Riders spent between 11 and 12 hours on the bike across three consecutive days, while Day Three alone covered more than 300 kilometres, including approximately 170 kilometres of off-road trails.

The challenging conditions included cold weather, dense fog, wet campsites and constantly changing terrain that tested not only riding ability but also physical endurance and mental resilience.

Among the toughest sections were the Metzeler Enduro Navigation Challenge, which featured eight kilometres of narrow single-track trails, the steep climbs to the Strategica Mountain Road, and a demanding descent along an exposed mountain goat track.

Deep gravel, riverbeds, muddy forest routes and slippery grass-covered slopes further pushed competitors to their limits, making Romania one of the most demanding GS Trophy destinations to date.

Adventure Beyond Competition

Held under the theme “Back to Basics”, the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2026 brought together 30 riders from 13 countries, showcasing not only Romania’s spectacular landscapes but also its hospitality and iconic mountain routes.

Throughout the event, the BMW R 12 G/S served as the official competition motorcycle, proving its capability across a wide range of challenging terrain while demonstrating the versatility expected from BMW Motorrad’s adventure-focused lineup.

With another successful edition now complete, the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy continues to reinforce its reputation as one of the world’s premier adventure motorcycling events, where teamwork, resilience and the spirit of exploration remain at the heart of every challenge.
