Honda’s EV Outlier Concept has been named a winner in the Design Concept category at the Red Dot Design Award 2026, while the company’s electric motorcycle brand film, “What Is a Motorcycle? / Electric Motorcycles,” has also received a Red Dot award in the Brand & Communication Design category.
Established in 1955, the Red Dot Award is one of the internationally recognised design competitions. The awards are administered by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany.
Honda EV Outlier Concept
The EV Outlier Concept was developed as Honda’s vision of what motorcycles could look like beyond 2030, rather than simply adapting existing motorcycle designs to electric power.
Honda first unveiled the concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in October last year, where it attracted attention from visitors with its unconventional design and electric drivetrain layout.
One of its most distinctive features is the use of in-wheel motors on both the front and rear wheels. Honda says this layout takes advantage of the greater design freedom offered by electric motorcycle architecture while allowing the concept to adopt a low and dynamic profile.
The design follows Honda’s common design theme for its electric motorcycles, “Precision of Intrinsic Design,” while the EV Outlier Concept itself was created around the idea of being “unconstrained by boundaries.”
Honda pushed the riding position extremely low, creating a wide field of view and a distinctive sense of acceleration. The low seating position also contributes to the motorcycle’s unusual proportions.
Smooth surfaces and a smoke-clear body further emphasise the mechanical elements underneath, while giving the concept an appearance intended to suggest effortless movement through the air.
Electric Motorcycle Brand Film Also Recognised
Honda’s brand film What Is a Motorcycle? / Electric Motorcycles was recognised in the Brand & Communication Design category. The film is based around Honda’s electric motorcycle business brand promise, Expected life. Unexpected discoveries.
According to Honda, the concept reflects its aim to create electric motorcycles that allow people to enjoy the comfort and excitement of everyday life while discovering new experiences enabled by electric mobility.
The film explores two areas: the unique values that electric mobility can create and the potential future mobility ecosystem in which people and electric motorcycles coexist. It also presents Honda’s vision of how electric motorcycles could contribute to new lifestyles and experiences in the future.
Honda Continues Electric Motorcycle Development
Toshinobu Minami, Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer and Design Center representative at Honda R&D Co., Ltd., said the company was honoured to receive recognition in both categories. “We believe these awards recognise our initiative to anticipate the needs of the future and give shape to new value ahead of the times,” he added.
Minami added that Honda will continue developing new values designed to surprise and inspire people while expanding the potential of mobility.
With both the EV Outlier Concept and its electric motorcycle brand film recognised at the Red Dot Design Award 2026, Honda is continuing to position design as a key part of its strategy for the next generation of electric motorcycles.
