The 2026 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix delivered all the drama fans could ask for, with Kimi Antonelli emerging victorious after a chaotic race filled with crashes, penalties, Safety Cars, and seven retirements. The Mercedes driver converted pole position into a commanding win, further strengthening his lead in the Drivers’ Championship.
At just 19 years old, Antonelli once again showcased remarkable composure around the tight streets of Monte Carlo. Despite multiple interruptions and late-race drama, the Italian kept his cool to secure his fifth consecutive victory of the season.

Antonelli Controls the Race from the Front
Starting from pole position, Antonelli made a perfect getaway and immediately established himself at the front of the field. His biggest threat, Max Verstappen, suffered a disastrous start after an anti-stall issue left him stranded as the rest of the grid swept past. The Red Bull driver later retired, ending his race before it truly began.
With Verstappen out of contention, Antonelli steadily built a gap over Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Mercedes looked in complete control as the young Italian managed his pace while avoiding the mistakes that caught out many of his rivals.

Safety Car and Red Flag Create Late Drama
The race took a dramatic turn when Lance Stroll crashed into the barriers, triggering a Safety Car period that wiped out much of Antonelli’s hard-earned advantage. Teams used the opportunity to make strategic pit stops, reshuffling the order behind the race leader.
Not long after the restart, local favourite Charles Leclerc suffered a similar accident, bringing out a red flag due to damage to the circuit. The interruption set up a tense standing restart, but Antonelli remained calm under pressure and executed another flawless launch to maintain control of the race.

Hamilton Secures Another Strong Finish
While Antonelli celebrated victory, Lewis Hamilton delivered another impressive performance for Ferrari. The seven-time world champion crossed the line in second place despite receiving a pit lane speeding penalty during the race. The result marked Hamilton’s second consecutive runner-up finish and moved him into second place in the championship standings.
Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar completed the podium after surviving a post-race investigation related to the red flag restart. The young French driver held onto third place, giving Red Bull something to celebrate on an otherwise difficult weekend.

Multiple Retirements Shake Up the Field
Monaco’s unforgiving layout once again proved why it remains one of Formula 1’s toughest challenges. Seven drivers failed to reach the finish, including Verstappen, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Lance Stroll, Carlos Sainz, Ollie Bearman, and Valtteri Bottas. Mechanical failures and crashes combined to create one of the most eventful races of the season so far.
Norris suffered a power-related issue that forced McLaren to retire his car, while Leclerc’s hopes of a strong home result ended in disappointment after crashing out during the closing stages.

Championship Momentum Continues for Antonelli
Antonelli’s victory further underlined his status as the standout driver of the 2026 season. The Mercedes star not only secured maximum points but also set the fastest lap of the race, continuing a remarkable run of form that has seen him establish a healthy championship advantage.
With five consecutive victories and growing confidence behind the wheel, Antonelli heads to the next round as the clear favourite, while rivals such as Hamilton, Verstappen, and Norris face increasing pressure to halt his momentum.
