The 2026 MotoGP season officially burst into life in dramatic style as the championship took over downtown Kuala Lumpur for a spectacular Season Launch weekend. Across two action-packed days, the Malaysian capital transformed into a festival of speed, sound and star power, with an estimated 20,000 fans turning up to welcome the world’s best riders.

Festivities kicked off on Friday evening with an exclusive opening party at the Permata Sapura Tower, where the MotoGP paddock swapped race leathers for black-tie glamour. Riders walked the red carpet to roaring cheers from fans, setting a classy tone before the action moved from the ballroom to the city streets.

Throughout Friday, MotoGP machines were displayed around Kuala Lumpur, building excitement ahead of Saturday night’s headline attraction, the Show Run. Earlier rain only added drama to the build-up, but once the skies cleared, engines roared to life and the city echoed with the sound of premier-class prototypes.

Factory Ducati stars Marc Márquez and Francesco Bagnaia stole much of the spotlight, while Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Jack Miller also made eye-catching entrances to mark the start of the new season.

From 8:00pm, riders rolled out team by team, completing two show laps through fan-lined streets before heading to the main stage. Stoppies, rev battles and plenty of rider flair turned the city centre into a full-blown motorsport carnival. It was also a special night for Jorge Martín, who made his 2026 Aprilia MotoGP debut at the event, riding the RS-GP after missing earlier testing through injury.

The entertainment didn’t stop with the bikes. The stage programme featured performances by The Script, DJ PAWSA, and Malaysian girl group DOLLA, blending music and motorsport into one unforgettable night. The show closed with riders joining The Script on stage for a final group photo, signing off the launch in style.

With the curtain now raised on 2026, attention quickly shifts back to the track. Pre-season preparations continue at the Buriram Test before racing officially begins in Thailand on March 1. With 22 Grands Prix on the calendar, the new campaign is already shaping up to be one of the biggest seasons in MotoGP history.
