The highly anticipated Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R has officially entered the Malaysian market, bringing a new premium middleweight supersport option for local riders. Launched by Modenas, the ZX-4R is offered in two variants, the ZX-4R SE, priced at RM40,999, and the ZX-4RR, priced at RM42,999. Prices exclude registration and insurance.

The ZX-4R expands Kawasaki’s Ninja supersport lineup with a unique proposition in the 400cc segment, targeting riders seeking the distinctive character of a high-revving inline-four engine positioned between the traditional 250cc and 600cc categories. This lightweight premium class continues to gain popularity globally, driven by demand for compact supersport machines that still deliver big-bike performance and sound.

Both variants share the same core mechanical platform, powered by a 399cc DOHC inline-four engine, paired with a six-speed gearbox featuring an assist and slipper clutch. The engine produces 77 hp at 14,500 rpm, rising to 79 hp with ram-air effect, alongside 39 Nm of torque at 13,000 rpm, delivering a high-revving, race-inspired riding experience that is rare in this segment.

In terms of specification differences, the ZX-4R SE is offered in Metallic Moondusty Gray/Metallic Spark Black and Blizzard White/Spark Black, while the ZX-4RR comes in the iconic Lime Green/Ebony colour scheme. The ZX-4RR also benefits from a Showa BFRC-lite (Balance Free Rear Cushion) adjustable monoshock and more aggressive chassis tuning, positioning it as the more track-focused option.

Both models are equipped with a comprehensive electronics package, including a bi-directional quickshifter, 4.3-inch TFT display, three-level Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), ABS, and selectable Sport, Road, Rain and Rider riding modes. Smartphone connectivity is supported via Kawasaki’s Rideology app, allowing riders to pair their devices with the TFT screen.

Braking duties are handled by dual 257 mm front discs with four-piston calipers, while the rear features a single 186 mm disc with a single-piston caliper. The ZX-4R rides on 17-inch wheels, fitted with 120/70 front and 160/60 rear tyres, ensuring strong grip and stability to match its performance potential. Other notable features include full LED lighting, a 15-litre fuel tank, 189 kg kerb weight, and a seat height of 800 mm, making it both compact and accessible for a wide range of riders.

With the arrival of the ZX-4R SE and ZX-4RR, Kawasaki Malaysia strengthens its position in the premium middleweight supersport category, offering Malaysian riders a rare inline-four 400cc supersport that blends compact dimensions, advanced electronics, and high-revving performance in a uniquely positioned Ninja platform.
