Swiss Moto3 Rider Noah Dettwiler in Critical but Stable Condition After Sepang Crash

The 20-year-old CIP Green Power rider underwent multiple surgeries following a severe accident during the Malaysian MotoGP weekend; world champion Jose Antonio Rueda sustained minor injuries.

Swiss Moto3 rider Noah Dettwiler remains in a critical but stable condition following a serious crash during the Malaysian MotoGP weekend at the Sepang International Circuit, his team and family confirmed on Monday.

In a statement posted on social media, his team said: “Noah has undergone several surgeries in the last few hours, which went well. According to the doctors in charge, his condition is stable but still critical.” The family also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, while requesting privacy during this difficult time.

The crash occurred during the sighting lap of Sunday’s Moto3 race, involving Dettwiler and newly-crowned world champion Jose Antonio Rueda. Both riders were conscious immediately after the incident and were airlifted by chopper to hospital for treatment. Rueda, 19, escaped with a concussion and a hand fracture, according to official reports.

The incident prompted race delays and a shortened Moto3 race, sparking discussion among riders about the decision to continue the event. MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia voiced his concern, saying: “To let the young riders do a 10-lap race in those conditions after seeing helicopters going away with two of them, it’s not a perfect idea. I would never understand it, but it’s what it is.”

Dettwiler, who rides for CIP Green Power, is currently in his second full Moto3 season, having previously competed with CFMoto Prüstel GP in 2024.

Moto3 serves as the entry-level category of the FIM World Championship, sitting below Moto2 and MotoGP, the premier class of motorcycle racing.

As of Monday, medical staff continue to monitor Dettwiler’s recovery closely, while the racing community rallies around him with messages of support and well-wishes from fans and fellow riders worldwide.
