Toprak Razgatlioglu delivered a flawless performance at the inaugural FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) round at Hungary’s brand-new Balaton Park Circuit, sweeping the weekend with pole position and three commanding wins on the BMW M 1000 RR.

The ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team rider was in a league of his own throughout the weekend, claiming victory in all three races, each with the fastest lap. His win in the Superpole Race on Sunday was particularly momentous, as it marked the 1000th race in WorldSBK history.

Razgatlioglu now leads the riders’ championship by 26 points, up from just four before the weekend. BMW also closed the gap to Ducati in the manufacturers’ standings, now trailing by only 16 points.

“For me, it has been an amazing weekend. That was a new track for everyone and we started the weekend strongly on Friday. I quickly adapted to the circuit and we did a very good job. I am very happy for that!” said Razgatlioglu.

“The Superpole Race was a little bit difficult because there were many wet patches, we had just one dry line and some corners were also still wet. But we did a very good job, no mistake, I was just riding and focused on the pace. That race was very important for me because I had won the 800th and the 900th and now also the 1000th WorldSBK race so this was a very special race for me to win. I am not focused on the championship, I just focus in every race to win it.”

Teammate Michael van der Mark (NED) had a more challenging outing, finishing 12th in Race 1, 15th in the mixed-conditions Superpole Race, and 16th in Race 2. He now heads to Japan to represent BMW in the upcoming Suzuka 8 Hours, part of the FIM Endurance World Championship (FIM EWC).

Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, called the weekend “historic” for the team: “Toprak’s triple win at a debut track and in the 1000th WorldSBK race is a huge milestone. We’re proud of the whole team, both trackside and back home. Now, we’ll shift focus to Suzuka and continue working with Mickey to bring him back to the top ten after the break.”

WorldSBK now heads into its summer pause, with racing to resume at Magny-Cours in France on September 6–8. Razgatlioglu, who missed the French round last year, is already eyeing another hat-trick at one of his favorite tracks, aiming to keep the momentum alive in the fight for the title.
