Malaysia’s rising star, Hakim Danish Ramli, delivered a stellar performance at the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup 2024 in Aragon, Spain, securing a resounding victory in Race 2 on a wet circuit, coinciding with the nation’s 67th Independence Day celebrations.

The 17-year-old Terengganu-born rider, known for his skill in challenging conditions, expertly navigated the slippery track to finish the race over six seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

Starting from fifth on the grid, Hakim wasted no time in maintaining his dominance, quickly taking the lead and maintaining his position until the checkered flag.

Despite briefly appearing to challenge Spanish rider Brian Uriarte, Hakim’s command of the race was never seriously threatened as Uriarte eased off in the latter stages, ultimately finishing as the runner-up. Finnish rider Rico Salmela completed the podium in third place.

Reflecting on his triumph, Hakim shared in a statement from ZK Racing, “This is my first victory. The second race was quite challenging due to the wet track conditions. I could feel that my machine was well set up for the wet track. I tried to create a gap from the first lap and maintained my pace, which allowed me to finish the race in first place.

“In yesterday’s Race 1, I also managed to put up a strong fight with the front group, but after the red flag, the race was restarted. I started quite aggressively and overtook another rider, which unfortunately led to an accident and I was penalised. I would like to dedicate this victory to the people of Malaysia in celebration of the 67th Independence Day,” he added.

Hakim’s victory in Aragon marks his first win in the RBMRC, a campaign he joined last season, and makes him the first Malaysian rider to claim victory in the prestigious series.

This win also served as redemption for his disappointing 14th-place finish in Race 1, where he received a double penalty for a mistake.

Hakim’s achievement has not only cemented his place in Malaysian motorsport history but also promises a bright future for the young rider on the international stage.
