Yamaha is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the MT-09 in 2024 with a significant upgrade, introducing the feature-packed MT-09 SP.
After the 2021 MT-09 SP launch, the 2024 model year brings even more enhancements to this high-spec version of the MT-09.
The MT-09 has been a consistent part of Yamaha’s lineup, known for its bold design, minimalistic appearance, and agile chassis. At its core is the powerful 890cc three-cylinder DOHC liquid-cooled CP3 engine, famous for its strong torque.
In 2024, the base MT-09 gets a refreshing update. It receives a new look, improved ergonomics, and a 5-inch TFT color display for a more engaging riding experience.
There’s also a new Back Slip Regulator system, a third-generation quickshifter, and other enhancements. However, the star of the show is the MT-09 SP, which inherits all these updates and adds exclusive features.
The MT-09 SP features Brembo Stylema brake calipers and a radial master cylinder for improved braking.
The suspension gets a big upgrade with a fully adjustable DLC-coated KYB fork and an Öhlins shock.
Yamaha cares about rider control and comfort. The MT-09 SP adds four track-specific Ride Control modes, two new Engine Brake Management modes, and a Smart Key System.
The latest CP3 engine retains Yamaha’s precise throttle control with Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and advanced ride modes.
The exhaust system creates a unique sound, and Acoustic Amplifier Grilles on the fuel tank enhance the auditory experience.

Riders can access advanced electronics via the 5-inch TFT display, offering various options. A six-axis IMU enhances features like traction control (TC), ABS, slide control, and wheelie control.
There are three standard modes – Sport, Street, and Rain, along with two customizable rider modes. The MT-09 SP offers four track-specific modes, enabling riders to disable rear ABS for more aggressive, performance-oriented riding.
The electronics package features Traction Control System, Slide Control System, Lift Control System, Brake Control System, Back Slip Regulator, and customizable Engine Brake Management.
The digital dashboard provides five visual themes, with an exclusive Track mode, allowing riders to personalize their display effortlessly.
The MT-09 SP offers smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation through the Garmin StreetCross app, perfect for tech-savvy riders.
Ergonomics are also a focus, with adjustable handlebars and footpegs. The shorter fuel tank provides more room for the rider, enhancing comfort.
The Yamaha MT-09 SP boasts a Liquid Metal/Raven color scheme, enhancing its already impressive design with a touch of sophistication.
With electronic and chassis upgrades, the MT-09 SP continues Yamaha’s tradition of offering a balanced and powerful option in the middleweight naked sportbike segment.
Yamaha enthusiasts and newcomers can anticipate an exciting riding experience with this model, combining cutting-edge technology, advanced engineering, and Yamaha’s distinctive style.
