At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an event especially dedicated to cars, held in the shores of Lake Como in Italy, there’s an ever growing presence of motorcycles. And BMW Motorrad has been taking every chance they can to be there with new concepts.
This year the German brand revealed a new sport-tourer concept dubbed 9Cento.
The aggressive and aerodynamic lines of the 9Cento seem to be too exotic to be used on a production version of this concept, but BMW Motorrad is known to show us these type of concepts just before releasing a production version of them. So, in the motorcycle shows that will happen later this year, we should expect to see this concept bike in full production form.
As for the 9Cento, BMW Motorrad decided to use a tweaked version of the parallel twin unit we’ve seen used in the F850GS. With the right level of tuning, this engine will surely make the 9Cento sport-tourer a welcome addition to the brand, and the bike will probably be replacing the older middleweight tourers F800S and ST.
Besides the aggressive design, one of the most interesting features on the 9Cento concept is the luggage system. The panniers, when installed, create a bigger area for the pillion to seat, and they attach to the bike by way of electromagnets underneath the seat.
This way the rider can quickly install the panniers or take them out if he wants to have the 9Cento with a rear end looking like a real sport bike.
If we had to guess, we would say that BMW Motorrad will present a new model based on the 9Cento concept during this year’s INTERMOT show in Cologne, in early October. We know how BMW likes to show their biggest “toys” there, but there’s also the chance that the bike could only appear a month later in the EICMA show in Milan.
