Miguel Oliveira (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) will miss the Qatar Grand Prix (April 13–14) as he continues his recovery from a left shoulder injury sustained in a crash during the Argentina Sprint Race on March 15. Augusto Fernandez, Yamaha Factory Racing’s test rider, will substitute for Oliveira for the second consecutive round, fresh off scoring points in a chaotic race at the Grand Prix of the Americas.
Oliveira suffered a dislocated left shoulder in a collision with Fermín Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) during the Argentina Sprint. Despite undergoing extensive medical evaluations and rehabilitation, the 30-year-old Portuguese rider has not been cleared to race. His absence marks a significant setback for the Prima Pramac team, with no confirmed timeline for his return.
Meanwhile Fernandez, the 2022 Moto2 World Champion, impressed at COTA by finishing 13th in challenging conditions, securing three championship points. The 27-year-old Spaniard now heads to Lusail a circuit where he has previously shone, including a top-five Moto2 finish in 2021 and points in his 2023 MotoGP debut.
The Lusail International Circuit will host Round 3 of the 2025 season, with Fernandez joining teammate Franco Morbidelli under the Prima Pramac banner. Oliveira, meanwhile, will focus on rehabilitation, aiming to return for the European leg of the championship.
