Valentino Rossi complains about the rear tyre: 'After five or six laps the performance dropped unbelievably'

Valentino Rossi finished this Sunday’s race out of points when he crossed the finish line in 18th place. Rossi started the race ten places ahead and stated that he started to lose performance after completing the initial laps.

According to the nine-time world champion, he had a good start to the race and felt he had the pace to compete for a top ten… until his rear tire problems started. ‘I was strong all weekend and I felt good on the bike, I had a decent race pace. We knew it would be a little more difficult to start with the medium tires because it was better with the hard ones. However, we would need to go with the midfielders and we expected to have some problems, but not like this. I started well and in the first few laps I was in the group, this is important, and I was more or less in the place I expected where I could fight with my pace, in seventh/eighth/ninth place; but after five or six laps the [performance of the ] rear tire fell off amazingly. On the right side, there was no more grip, it’s as if the tire was completely worn out and then lost a lot of performance. I started to lose one, two, three seconds per lap and in the end, I was really slow.’, explained to journalists before finishing his statement: – It is a pity; I’m very sad because I wanted to try to get a good result here. I like the track, it has a very fun atmosphere and especially I felt good on the bike; this is because it is a fast track, it has technical points and during the weekend I was always competitive. I wanted to try to get to the top ten, but that’s what it is.
