BMW Motorrad has introduced the 2027 BMW Motorrad F 450 R, a new middleweight naked sportbike powered by a 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 48 hp.
The F 450 R joins the F 450 GS in BMW Motorrad’s new middleweight motorcycle family. While the GS focuses on adventure riding, the F 450 R has been developed specifically for road use, featuring its own chassis and styling inspired by the larger BMW S 1000 R. BMW Motorrad has yet to announce official pricing and availability for the F 450 R in Malaysia. For comparison within BMW’s new middleweight range, the BMW F 450 GS is currently priced at RM40,000 in Malaysia.
The BMW F 450 R is powered by a fuel-injected 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. The engine uses a 135-degree crankpin offset, giving it a distinctive character and sound. Power is sent through a six-speed gearbox and a left-side X-ring chain drive.

BMW says around 80% of maximum torque is available from as low as 3,000 rpm, helping provide accessible performance for everyday riding and corner exits. The engine meets Euro 5+ emissions requirements and has a claimed fuel consumption of 3.8 litres/100 km.
Shift Assistant Pro, or quickshifter, is standard on all variants except the Base. It can be added as an option on the Base model. The shift pattern can also be reversed for riders who prefer a racing-style (GP shift) gear configuration. Also, its 14-litre fuel tank provides more than 350km of claimed range, while service intervals are set at every 10,000km.
The range-topping M Sport with Innovation Package receives BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). The system automatically operates the clutch according to engine speed. Combined with Shift Assistant Pro, it allows clutch-free starts and gear changes.

BMW Motorrad has developed the F 450 R’s chassis specifically for road riding. The motorcycle uses a tubular steel space frame, with the engine acting as a load-bearing element. Up front, the F 450 R uses a 43mm KYB upside-down fork, while the rear features an aluminium hollow-cast double-sided swingarm with a KYB monoshock. Models equipped with Sport Suspension receive compression and rebound adjustment for the front fork.
The F 450 R rides on lightweight cast-aluminium wheels fitted with tubeless tyres measuring 110/70-17 at the front and 150/60-17 at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 310mm front disc paired with a four-piston Brembo monobloc calliper. At the rear, the motorcycle uses a 240mm disc with a single-piston ByBre calliper.
The braking system is supported by BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, which is designed to provide additional braking control, including when the motorcycle is leaned over in corners. The F 450 R also comes with Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and a dynamic brake light as additional safety features.

The standard rider assistance package includes:
- ABS Pro
- Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
- Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
- Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR)
- Rain Riding Mode
- Road Riding Mode
- Dynamic Riding Mode
All variants also come with a 790mm seat height, full LED lighting and a 6.5-inch colour TFT display. The display supports smartphone connectivity, music and navigation functions, while a USB-C charging port is also included.
