PDRM Receives Three Harley-Davidson Motorcycles for Operational Evaluation

The Low Rider ST, Street Glide and Pan America will undergo practical evaluation by JSPT, including use during Le Tour de Langkawi 2026.

Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur has handed over three Harley-Davidson motorcycles to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) for a Proof of Concept (POC) evaluation.

The handover ceremony was held at Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur, with the motorcycles presented to PDRM/JSPT by representatives of Route 77 Harley-Davidson, including Datuk Omar Ali Abdullah, Larry Yap Eng Keong and Juan Chow Wee.

The three motorcycles involved in the evaluation are the Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST, Street Glide and Pan America, representing different motorcycle platforms within the American manufacturer’s range.

According to Route 77 Harley-Davidson, the POC will allow JSPT personnel to assess the motorcycles based on performance, handling, manoeuvrability and practicality, particularly for escort and official duties. The evaluation will also provide JSPT personnel with practical experience riding the three different platforms in operational conditions.

The motorcycles have been provided specifically for the evaluation and do not represent an endorsement, procurement commitment or indication of future acquisition by PDRM. Any potential future procurement would remain subject to PDRM’s established evaluation, approval and procurement procedures.

Coinciding with the POC evaluation period, the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) 2026 will provide an opportunity for JSPT to evaluate the motorcycles in a real-world environment, involving sustained riding, varying road conditions and the operational requirements associated with a major international sporting event.

However, the motorcycles’ use during LTDL 2026 remains part of the POC and does not represent permanent deployment or adoption by PDRM.

YDH CP Dato’ Sri Muhammed Hasbullah Bin Ali, Director of JSPT, said,: “This Proof of Concept provides JSPT with an opportunity to evaluate three different motorcycle platforms in a practical environment. Each model has different characteristics and capabilities, and our focus is to objectively assess their performance, handling, practicality and suitability against JSPT’s operational requirements.”

He added that the presence of LTDL during the evaluation period would provide a useful environment for personnel to assess the motorcycles under actual riding and operational conditions.

The collaboration represents cooperation between the private sector and PDRM in evaluating motorcycle platforms that could potentially support the evolving requirements of traffic policing and escort duties.

The relationship between PDRM and Harley-Davidson is not entirely new. In October 2023, the Sabah state government contributed a fleet of eight Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST motorcycles to the government sector.
