AGV Pista GP R3 Debuts With New Safety System

The new flagship racing helmet was tested by MotoGP riders at Misano and introduces a redesigned ventilation system, carbon-fibre shell and AGV’s latest impact-management technology.

AGV has introduced the Pista GP R3, the latest evolution of its flagship racing helmet, with the new model making its competition debut with MotoGP riders at the 2026 San Marino Grand Prix.

Developed as the successor to the Pista GP-RR, the Pista GP R3 introduces several new technologies focused on safety, aerodynamics and ventilation. AGV says more than 100 new moulds were created for new and redesigned components during the development process.

One of the biggest changes is the introduction of AGV Sphera, which incorporates the company’s RLS (Release Layer System) technology.

According to the Italian Brand, Sphera is designed to reduce the effects of oblique impacts, which can generate rotational acceleration of the brain during a crash. The company claims the system can reduce the risk of concussion by up to six times. The helmet also features an all-carbon-fibre shell and meets the latest FIM FRHPhe-02 homologation standard for racing helmets.

AGV has also redesigned the ventilation system. The air vents are now manufactured using Grilamid, a composite material combining plastic and carbon fibre, with the aim of improving airflow while maintaining the helmet’s structural requirements.

The Pista GP R3 was officially launched during the 2026 San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix weekend at Misano. It subsequently made its first major competition appearance, with riders across the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 categories using the new helmet.

In MotoGP, Marco Bezzecchi, Luca Marini and Franco Morbidelli raced with the Pista GP R3, with the Aprilia riders reporting improvements with the new design.

AGV has not yet announced the official Malaysian price or full market availability for the Pista GP R3. According to TopSpeed, the helmet is expected to become available in the United States in the first quarter of 2027, although US pricing has yet to be confirmed.

For reference, the current Pista GP RR starts at more than US$1,600 (RM6,720), while a limited-edition version has been priced at US$1,729 (RM7,262).

With its new Sphera impact-management system, carbon-fibre construction and updated FIM certification, the Pista GP R3 represents AGV’s latest attempt to bring technology developed for professional racing into its top-tier helmet range.
