The Triumph brand is no stranger for Malaysian riders. Ever since the brand officially entered the Malaysian market back in 2010, it has developed a significant fanbase for riders who want a premium motorcycle coming from a British manufacturer.
The brand competes closely with other continental brands such as BMW. The models that Triumph has released throughout the years have been able to cater to different types of riders ranging from riders who seek thrill in riding to riders who want a relaxing cruise.
One of the models that could absolutely deliver a thrilling riding experience is the Triumph Street Triple RS. The Street Triple RS was first launched back in 2017 alongside the Street Triple S and R.
The S model is the base model that is specifically tailored for street riding, while the R model is a more sportier version that comes with a more sportier suspension. The RS model is the most premium version out of the three, already tailored to become a track-ready machine that is able to conquer tracks effortlessly.
The model that I tested was the 2017 model of the Triumph Street Triple RS, the absolute flagship trim for the Street Triple model lineup. I was able to spend some time with the bike to really get a feel of what it’s like riding it. It absolutely blew me away how the bike behaved and how aggressive it feels to be handling this machine.

Engine and Transmission
This motorcycle is powered by a 765cc liquid-cooled inline-three engine that produces around 121 horsepower at 11,750 RPM and 77 Nm of torque at around 10,800 RPM. For a sporty naked bike, those numbers are absolutely phenomenal. Paired with the sensational sound of the inline-three engine, it definitely gives you an absolute thrill every time you get on it
This bike uses a 6-speed gearbox that is paired with an assist and slipper clutch. This bike is a track weapon, so of course there would be some aggressive downshifting involved. The presence of an assist and slipper clutch really helps to mitigate any traction loss when doing any aggressive shifting.
Since this is a track-focused bike, it also comes with a quickshifter as standard that really helps for very fast upshifting that is useful whenever you are going on the track or wanting to pull away quickly.

Design and Features
This bike has quite an aggressive and compact design that still looks modern even by today’s standards. The signature twin-headlight setup gives the bike its unmistakable Street Triple identity, while the minimal bodywork and exposed frame give it that raw naked-bike character. Triumph also did a great job with the proportions of the bike.
The proportions of the bike really is something to be looked upon. The short tail section, sculpted fuel tank, and sharp body lines make the motorcycle look lightweight and ready to attack corners even when standing still.
What really helps the RS stand out from the other Street Triple models are the premium details and finishing touches. The red subframe, RS graphics, belly pan, and high-quality paintwork gives the bike an overall premium feel. Despite being a middleweight naked bike, the fit and finish genuinely feels solid. The bike manages to look sporty and aggressive without trying too hard or becoming overly futuristic.
In terms of features, the 2017 Street Triple RS was already ahead of its time. It comes equipped with a full-colour TFT display, five different riding modes, switchable ABS and traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, and a quickshifter that really enhances the riding experience.
The TFT screen is especially impressive because it still feels modern and easy to read today. Combined with the electronics package and aggressive styling, the Street Triple RS feels like a naked bike built for riders who want both performance and modern personality.

Riding Experience
Throwing a leg over the Street Triple RS, the first thing that immediately stands out is how compact yet comfortable the motorcycle feels. Despite its aggressive naked-bike styling, the riding position is surprisingly accommodating. Even with my 178 cm height, I was able to sit on the bike comfortably without feeling too cramped or overly stretched out. The slightly forward-leaning riding posture still gives the bike a sporty feel, but it does not put excessive pressure on the wrists, making it feel suitable for both fast and daily rides.
The Street Triple RS is often praised for how lightweight and agile it feels, and it is easy to understand why. The narrow body and compact chassis make the bike feel very approachable, especially for a middleweight performance naked bike. Whether maneuvering through traffic or leaning into corners, the bike feels extremely nimble and responsive. Combined with the wide handlebars, the overall riding experience feels very connected and confidence-inspiring.
What truly defines the riding experience of the Street Triple RS, however, is its famous inline-three engine character. The 765cc triple-cylinder engine is known for delivering strong low-end torque while still offering an exciting top-end rush as the RPM climbs.
Unlike a typical twin-cylinder engine that focuses mainly on torque or an inline-four that comes alive only at higher RPMs, the triple-cylinder setup gives a balance of both worlds. This gives the Street Triple RS a reputation for being smooth during relaxed riding while still feeling thrilling when pushed harder.

Handling and Braking
One of the biggest reasons why the Street Triple RS is so highly respected among riders is because of its handling characteristics. The bike is widely known for feeling incredibly agile and precise. Thanks to its lightweight chassis and compact dimensions, the Street Triple RS has a reputation for being extremely easy to flick into corners while still feeling stable and planted at higher speeds.
The suspension setup on the RS variant further elevates the riding experience. Triumph equipped the motorcycle with fully adjustable USD Showa Big Piston front forks and an Öhlins STX40 rear monoshock, which already hints at the level of performance the bike was designed for.
The suspension is known for offering an excellent balance between sporty stiffness and everyday comfort. Whether riding through twisty roads or dealing with uneven city streets, the Street Triple RS is often praised for delivering sharp handling without feeling overly harsh.
Braking performance is equally impressive. The bike comes fitted with high-spec Brembo M50 monobloc calipers paired with dual front discs, which is able to provide strong and confidence-inspiring stopping power. The braking feel is said to be very progressive and predictable, allowing riders to brake aggressively without the bike feeling unstable. Combined with the standard ABS system, the overall braking package helps make the Street Triple RS feel like a properly premium middleweight naked bike built with serious performance in mind.

Verdict
Overall, the 2017 Triumph Street Triple RS really feels like a motorcycle that was built for riders who genuinely enjoy the experience of riding itself. From the aggressive styling and premium components to the famous inline-three engine character, everything about the bike feels focused on delivering excitement every time you twist the throttle.
What makes the Street Triple RS stand out so much is how well-balanced the entire package feels. It has the performance and sharp handling to satisfy experienced riders, but at the same time it still offers enough comfort and usability for everyday riding. The upright ergonomics, lightweight chassis, and smooth power delivery make the motorcycle feel approachable without taking away its sporty personality.
The features that it has is already on par with most modern motorcycles today. The TFT display, riding modes, quickshifter, Brembo brakes, and high-spec suspension setup help the bike feel much more expensive than it actually is. Combined with the distinctive sound and character of the 765cc inline-three engine, the Street Triple RS delivers a riding experience that feels both raw and refined at the same time.
Currently found on the used market for around RM28,000 to RM38,000 depending on condition and mileage, the 2017 Street Triple RS still feels like a very strong value proposition for riders looking for a premium middleweight naked bike. There may be newer competitors with more modern electronics, but the Street Triple RS still has a character that is difficult to replicate.
After spending time around the bike, it is honestly easy to understand why so many riders consider the Street Triple RS one of the best middleweight naked motorcycles ever made. It manages to blend comfort, performance, and personality into one complete package. If you are looking for a motorcycle that can make even a short ride feel exciting, the Street Triple RS is definitely a bike that deserves serious consideration.
