Ducati began to show their commitment to the new season when the 850cc MotoGP prototype was tested at the Misano circuit. The test was conducted by experienced test rider Michele Pirro, who played a key role in the early development of the machine.
Pirro’s appearance was a bit of a surprise. This is because he was present at the V2 Champ Academy test session with a machine believed to be the Desmosedici GP27. Based on images and videos shared by GPOne.com, the bike already uses an 850cc engine, new aerodynamics, and Pirelli tires. All of this is in line with the MotoGP regulations that will come into effect in 2027.
Ducati was among the first to introduce an 850cc machine
It is not yet clear how many closed tests Ducati has conducted. However, this appearance at Misano is significant. It makes Ducati one of the first teams to show their 850cc machines on the track.
At the same time, KTM and Honda have also started to show their progress. On the other hand, Yamaha has yet to officially reveal their machine, although it is believed to have conducted testing in Japan. Aprilia is expected to introduce their prototype soon.

Michele Pirro leads early development
As Ducati’s chief test rider, Michele Pirro played a major role in this project. His experience with Ducati gave him an advantage in developing this new generation of machinery.
Pirro is also still active in racing. He previously replaced Fermin Aldeguer with the Gresini team at the season opener in Thailand. This shows that he is still at a competitive level.
Nicolo Bulega will participate in the test
Ducati isn’t just relying on Pirro. They also plan to bring in Nicolo Bulega, who currently leads the World Superbike championship. Bulega has extensive experience with Pirelli tires, so his presence is crucial.
According to reports, Bulega is expected to start testing around May or June. With the combination of these two riders, Ducati appears to be on the right track.
Overall, Ducati clearly wants to be prepared early. The change to the 850cc engine and new regulations will change the MotoGP competition. Therefore, every test like this is very important to remain competitive.
