Chance Hymas has paused his 2026 AMA Supercross campaign after a first-turn crash at Anaheim 2 injured his shoulder and forced him to undergo surgery.

The incident unfolded in the opening corner of the January 24 round when a rider crashed in traffic and triggered a chain reaction that swept up several competitors. The chaos caught Hymas out, and he fell awkwardly while bracing for impact, dislocating his left shoulder. Subsequent medical checks confirmed labrum damage, prompting doctors to recommend surgery.

The doctors will perform the procedure on January 30, and Hymas will spend approximately eight weeks recovering from the bike. The timeline allows him to focus on getting fully fit for the outdoor motocross season instead of rushing back mid-Supercross.

The setback comes at a difficult time for Honda HRC Progressive, which has already been managing multiple injuries within its line-up. Jett Lawrence and Jo Shimoda remain sidelined following pre-season incidents, leaving Hunter Lawrence as the team’s primary contender. Hunter has delivered consistent performances through the opening rounds and currently sits second in the championship standings.

Despite the growing injury list, the team remains focused on long-term fitness and ensuring all riders return at full strength rather than risking further complications.

For Hymas, it’s an unfortunate interruption to what had been a promising start to the year. Now, attention shifts from race results to recovery, to come back healthy and ready to fight when the gates drop again later this season.
