The Aprilia Tuareg Racing Team officially began its campaign at the 2026 Africa Eco Race after both the prologue and the first stage were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Originally intended to determine the starting positions, the prologue did not take place. The first stage, planned to run from Tangier to Bousaïd over approximately 800 km, was also transformed into a non-competitive liaison stage because of snow along the route.

The new opening stage, originally scheduled as stage two, saw riders depart from Bousaïd for a demanding navigation section featuring long fast stretches, rocky terrain, and the first iconic dunes of Merzouga.

Reigning champion Jacopo Cerutti, riding the Aprilia Tuareg Rally, finished fourth overall, just +2’36’’ behind the stage leader. Francesco Montanari completed the stage in ninth place (+16’49’’), while Marco Menichini faced a tougher start, finishing eighteenth (+30’24’’).

Commenting on the stage, Cerutti said:

“The first stage went well. I started first and managed to lead for practically the whole day. Even though the timed section was shortened to 218 km, it went well, and I’m happy with the pace. The bike is performing well, and we’ll see if we can make any improvements ahead of the second stage. There are many strong competitors this year, but we’re ready to compete.”

The Aprilia Tuareg Racing Team is now preparing for the next stage, aiming to capitalize on the strong performance and maintain their competitive edge in this year’s Africa Eco Race.
