Honda HRC is proud to announce that Jonathan Rea will return to the team as HRC test rider in 2026. Rea is a six-time WorldSBK champion and the most successful rider in the series’ history. His experience and knowledge make him a perfect fit for Honda’s Superbike program.

The 38-year-old from Northern Ireland has an impressive record: 119 race wins, 264 podiums, and six consecutive WorldSBK titles from 2015 to 2020. His dominance during that period set new standards in production-based motorcycle racing.

Rea’s career began with Honda in the British Superbike Championship. He finished runner-up in 2007. In 2008, he joined WorldSSP with Ten Kate Honda and again finished second overall. He debuted in WorldSBK in 2009 with Honda, racing until 2014. During this time, he collected 42 podiums, including 15 race wins, ranking him among Honda’s most successful WorldSBK riders.

After announcing his retirement from professional racing at the end of 2025, Rea sought a new challenge. Returning to Honda as a test rider allows him to share his extensive experience. He will help develop the CBR1000RR-R and support the HRC factory team in preparing for the upcoming WorldSBK seasons.

Jonathan Rea: “Returning to Honda feels like a full-circle moment. This is the manufacturer where I gained my first WorldSBK race win. My role as a test rider is different from racing, but I am motivated to contribute. I aim to bring all the experience I’ve gained to help develop the CBR1000RR-R and support the HRC team. I’m also excited to work again with Chris Pike and the HRC test team. Together, I’m confident we can achieve something very positive.”

Yuji Mori, Honda HRC Team Manager: “We are thrilled to welcome Jonathan back to Honda. Having the most successful rider in WorldSBK history join us is significant for Honda and for the championship. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue developing our program and aim to bring Honda back to the top of WorldSBK. Jonathan’s contribution will play a key role in shaping our future.”

Both Honda and Rea are excited about this collaboration. With his experience and insights, Rea will help improve the CBR1000RR-R and strengthen Honda’s presence in WorldSBK. This partnership marks an important step in Honda’s continued commitment to the series.
