Honda Motor Co. has announced plans to roll out four new motorcycle models beginning this November, marking the first domestic lineup designed specifically to comply with Japan’s new moped license category and upcoming emissions standards.

The launch begins with the Dio, set for release on November 20, followed by three new additions to the Super Cub series on December 11. Each model features an engine displacement of up to 110cc and a maximum output of 4 kilowatts, aligning with the revised license regulations introduced earlier this year. Prices will range from ¥239,800 to ¥401,500, depending on model and specifications.

The initiative comes in response to Japan’s updated moped license system, which took effect in April 2025. The revised rules now allow riders with a standard moped license to operate motorcycles up to 125cc, provided their output does not exceed 4 kW. This change aims to make entry-level motorcycling more accessible and practical for urban commuters, especially as smaller 50cc mopeds become increasingly obsolete.

Honda’s new models are also notable for being among the first in Japan to comply with the country’s stricter emissions regulations, which will take effect in November. The company emphasised that these motorcycles will deliver cleaner performance without sacrificing the reliability and efficiency that the Cub and Dio nameplates are known for.

Industry-wide, the shift marks a major turning point. Leading Japanese manufacturers, including Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki, have announced plans to phase out production of motorcycles under 50cc, citing the high cost of meeting new environmental standards for such low-displacement engines.

With the new Super Cub 110cc lineup and Dio ready to hit the market, Honda is positioning itself at the forefront of Japan’s evolving two-wheeler segment: one that balances sustainability, accessibility, and performance for a new generation of riders.
