Motorists in the Klang Valley are advised to brace for major traffic disruptions later this month as Kuala Lumpur prepares to host the 47th ASEAN Summit 2025 from October 26 to 28. The event, which marks the culmination of Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship, will see leaders from all 10 ASEAN member states, as well as dialogue partners and invited global figures, including US President Donald Trump, attending the high-level meeting in the capital.

According to the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre (KLCCC), several rolling and full road closures will be carried out in stages across major highways and city roads throughout the three-day period. Each closure is expected to last between 30 and 45 minutes to allow the smooth passage of official delegations and motorcades.

Routes connecting Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang, and Putrajaya to the city centre will experience intermittent closures to facilitate the movement of government convoys.

The main expressways affected include:

  • Maju Expressway (MEX)
  • North–South Expressway (Sungai Buloh to Jalan Duta)
  • Elite Expressway (KLIA to Putrajaya)
  • New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) (Subang to Jalan Duta)
  • Guthrie Expressway
  • KL–Seremban Expressway (Sungai Besi to city centre)

Meanwhile, several key city roads will also face staged closures during the summit, particularly around Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, where the KLCC area is expected to experience the heaviest traffic impact.

Among the main roads affected are:

Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Pinang, Jalan Binjai, Persiaran KLCC, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Perak, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Istana, Jalan Tun Razak, and Jalan Kuching.

Key intersections likely to experience significant congestion include Jalan Ampang–Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Sultan Ismail–Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Perak–Jalan Pinang, Jalan Stonor–Jalan Kia Peng, and Jalan Stonor–Persiaran KLCC.

The KLCCC has also announced that heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city centre during peak summit hours. The public is strongly encouraged to use public transportation such as the MRT, LRT, Monorail, and RapidKL buses throughout the duration of the summit to avoid long delays.

Authorities are urging motorists to plan their journeys ahead and avoid non-essential travel into Kuala Lumpur during the affected days. Commuters can also stay updated through official traffic advisories issued by KLCCC and the Royal Malaysia Police.
