The FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) is set to make its thrilling debut in Malaysia, with Kuala Lumpur officially announced as the opening round of the 2025 season. Taking place at the iconic Stadium Merdeka on October 18, 2025, this landmark event marks the first time the world-renowned supercross series will be held on Malaysian soil, bringing the excitement of global motocross to Southeast Asia.

Known for its high-adrenaline racing, rugged tracks, and elite riders, WSX promises an action-packed day in the heart of KL. Stadium Merdeka will be transformed into a dirt-fueled arena for a full-day spectacle featuring world-class racing, immersive fan experiences, and a festival-style atmosphere with performances by both local and international music acts.

Ticket pre-sales will run exclusively on July 23rd and 24th, giving fans priority access to seats before the general public sale opens on July 25 via www.wsxmalaysiagp.com.

Economic Impact and Long-Term Vision

WSX’s Malaysian debut comes with a long-term commitment, cemented by a three-plus-two-year agreement that positions the country as Southeast Asia’s exclusive WSX host. According to organisers, the event is expected to draw thousands of international fans and inject a major boost into the local tourism and motorsports economy.

Shamil Yusof, Chief Executive Director of Data Sukan Sdn Bhd, said, “Bringing the FIM World Supercross Championship to Kuala Lumpur is a monumental moment for Malaysian sports. As the only Southeast Asian nation to host this prestigious event, we’re incredibly proud to demonstrate our capability to stage world-class competitions. These events will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of motorsports fans and contribute positively to our nation’s economic landscape.”

Spotlight on Malaysian Wildcards

A strong emphasis is being placed on developing regional talent, with specific ASEAN rider slots and wildcard entries up for grabs. Active discussions are underway to shortlist and secure a Malaysian contender for one of these highly sought-after wildcard positions, a move that aims to fuel national pride and inspire future generations of motorsports fans.

“We’re looking forward to discovering and nurturing more homegrown talent in the two-wheel scene, from national motocross rider Muhamad Habibullah Mohd Saleh to ARRC racer Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah,” said Shamil.

“Our target is to confirm two Malaysian riders for the 250cc wildcard class in the coming months, and begin preparations for their participation in the 2025 FIM World Supercross Championship. Their names will be officially announced soon,” he added.
