The FIM MotoE World Championship roared back into action on Friday, as the field took to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for their first official pre-season test of 2025. With a packed schedule ahead, teams and riders wasted no time getting back up to speed after the winter break.

Day 1 featured a series of free practice sessions as riders dialed themselves and their machinery back into rhythm. By the end of the day, it was Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) who topped the timesheets, setting the fastest lap with a 1:47.428 during the third session. Casadei’s strong start signals his intent for the season ahead. However, he wasn’t the only familiar name running near the top.

Joining Casadei in the top five were Eric Granado (LCR E-Team), Alessandro Zaccone (Aruba Cloud MotoE Team), Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE), and Oscar Gutierrez (MSI Racing Team) — a mix of seasoned frontrunners and rising talents, suggesting the 2025 season could be as fiercely competitive as ever.

However, the biggest story of the day came off the timing screens. Hector Garzo, the reigning World Champion with Dynavolt Intact GP, suffered a crash that resulted in a broken trapezium bone in his left hand. The injury sidelines him for the remainder of the test. This is a major blow to his preparations and putting him at a disadvantage heading into his title defence campaign. Garzo had completed only limited track time before the crash, making the setback even more significant.

The action continues on Saturday with a full race simulation. This gives teams and riders their first taste of long-run pace under race-like conditions. Then, on Sunday, the field will run through a qualifying simulation to sharpen their one-lap speed ahead of the season opener.

Stay tuned for more updates, results, and photos from Barcelona as the MotoE pre-season test rolls on.
