The final round of the 2024 MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) concluded dramatically at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit on December 15.

Race 2 saw Thailand’s rider Nakarin Atiratphuvapat of Honda Racing Thailand deliver a stunning performance, securing his sixth consecutive victory of the season in the MSBK1000 A class.

MSBK1000 A: Nakarin’s Unstoppable Form

Despite already clinching the championship in Race 1, Nakarin was relentless in Race 2, crossing the finish line in 21’15:661s, over 6 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin of Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team.

The race began with Azroy Hakeem Anuar (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team) in the lead, followed closely by Kasma. Starting from P3, Nakarin kept a steady pace while fending off pressure from Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (Horizon Racing Team) and Md Ibrahim Md Norrodin (FGRT Project).

On lap 3, Nakarin made his move, overtaking both Azroy and Kasma to seize the lead. From there, he maintained a blistering pace, pulling away to secure a commanding victory by a margin of 5.322 seconds.

Post-race, Nakarin reflected, “An amazing race to end the season! I stayed focused on my lap times and improved my riding style. Winning the championship is incredible, and I’ll work hard to come back stronger next season.”

Kasma finished second in Race 2 with a time of 21’21:899s, while Azroy rounded off the podium in third with a time of 21’51:959s.

Despite a DNF in Race 2, Azlan, who recently announced his retirement from motorsports, secured second place overall in the MSBK1000 A category for the 2024 season. Kasma clinched third overall, concluding a highly competitive and action-packed season on a high note.

MSBK600: Helmi Azman – The “Prince of Sepang”

In the MSBK600 category, Helmi Azman (Boon Siew Honda Racing Team) delivered another commanding performance, claiming victory in Race 2 and reinforcing his dominance as the season champion.

Helmi edged out teammate Syarifuddin Azman for the win, with a time of 21’48:590s. Thanat Laoongplio (Honda Racing Thailand) finished third, +19.767s behind the leader.

Reflecting on his victory, Helmi said, “I aimed to break away from Thanat early on, and once I saw my teammate behind me, I felt confident. I’m thrilled with this season’s results. Thank you to everyone who supported me. See you next season!”

Thanat secured first runner-up overall for the season, with Syarifuddin taking third overall, rounding off a thrilling year in the MSBK600 class.
