FNG Works’ RXZ Twin Boss V2 will debut at Japan’s 32nd Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show. This achievement follows the bike’s win at the Art of Speed Invitational Bike Build Off. The RXZ Twin Boss V2 won both the Jury Pick and Public Choice Award, securing its spot at Yokohama. It will appear alongside the world’s best custom vehicles, bringing Malaysian craftsmanship to a global audience.
A Visionary Builder with a Story to Tell
Irwann Cheng, a 33-year-old UiTM Shah Alam graduate in Mechanical Engineering, is the visionary behind FNG Works. He draws inspiration from Malaysian customizers like Khalid “The Rusty Factory,” Omar Jumiran, and Padin Musa. Cheng also admires global figures, including Maxwell Hazan and Ed Roth. His commitment to intricate craftsmanship shines in the RXZ Twin Boss V2. This design redefines Malaysia’s custom bike culture on an international stage.
Evolution of an Iconic Design: From RXZ Twin Boss V1 to V2
The RXZ Twin Boss story began with the original V1, which debuted at the 2017 Art of Speed Malaysia (AOSM). The first iteration used two Yamaha RXZ 135cc engines arranged linearly and linked by a chain-driven crank configuration, capturing the essence of a classic “Digger” style bike. The RXZ Twin Boss V1 eventually became a lucky draw giveaway, cementing its place in AOSM history.
For the RXZ Twin Boss V2, Cheng adopted a bold new direction. It fused two Yamaha RXZ engines into a single 2-cylinder unit. This innovative approach enabled him to build an entirely new motorcycle around the engine, meticulously designed for aesthetics and high-performance. “I wanted a bike that looks beautiful and pleasing to the eyes,” Cheng shares, describing the bike’s refined, board tracker or land speed racer style. Each element was crafted to the highest precision possible, resulting in a motorcycle that exemplifies both artistry and engineering excellence.
Taking Malaysian Creativity to Yokohama
Art Of Speed Malaysia is backing FNG Works with a budget of RM60,000 to bring the RXZ Twin Boss V2 to Japan, covering expenses for logistics, transportation, and accommodations. This support exemplifies AOSM’s commitment to amplifying Malaysia’s creative industry on an international platform. The AOS team will also produce a documentary film titled “RXZ Balik Kampung: Dari Ipoh ke Yokohama” to document the RXZ Twin Boss V2’s journey from Cheng’s workshop in Ipoh to Yokohama.
The six-part series will be directed by Hanif Sulhi, award-winning director of *Fail Mahkamah* on TV3. It will capture the journey and spirit of Malaysian craftsmanship, appealing to young audiences and aspiring creators. The series premieres on Christmas Day across AOS’s social platforms. AOS plans to submit the film to international festivals, including the Motorcycle Film Festival (Toronto), VAHNA Motorcycle Film Festival (USA), and Dubai Motorcycle Film Festival.
Showcasing Malaysian Talent on a Global Platform
Participation in the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show reflects AOSM’s mission to promote Malaysian talent on the world stage. “We are grateful to everyone who supports Art Of Speed events and enables us to bring Malaysians overseas to showcase their talents,” says Asep Ahmad, Festival Director of AOSM. “We are excited for FNG Works to be in such a prestigious event and hope that many more will follow in their footsteps.”
Supporting Cast and Crew: A Collaborative Effort
KEJOS AUTOPROJECT will handle ground logistics in Japan, ensuring the RXZ Twin Boss V2’s smooth arrival and display. The AOS team will travel with 15 members to support the event, marking a proud moment for Malaysian custom-building culture.
With innovative engineering and stunning aesthetics, the RXZ Twin Boss V2 is set to impress in Yokohama. FNG Works’ success showcases Malaysia’s creative talent, inspiring future custom builders to dream big and aim high.
