The ninth round of the Petronas MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship unfolded with thrilling action at Medini Iskandar City Circuit, where riders in multiple categories fought fiercely for podiums.

The event, which took place last weekend on Friday and Saturday, concluded with Md Akid Aziz of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing claiming both the round win and the CP150 championship title.

CP150

CP150 Category

Rain forced the cancellation of the “Super-Pole” session in the afternoon, determining the CP150 grid based on Friday’s qualifying times. Honda Estremo Yuzy Racing’s Azroy Hakeem Anuar secured the top spot with a time of 44.624 seconds, closely followed by Md Akid Aziz at 44.626 seconds. Kasma Daniel of Petronas  Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor rounded out the top three with a lap of 44.675 seconds.

In the race, Akid quickly took P1 at the first corner, followed by teammate Afif in P2. Azroy initially held P3 but was overtaken by Kasma. Afif soon took the lead from Akid, but Akid focused on clinching the championship, reclaimed P1 and managed to defend his position in the final laps, finishing with a time of 15:17.301, and securing his second consecutive championship title. Afif followed closely with a time of 15:17.409, while Kasma finished third at 15:33.152.

Reflecting on his victory, Akid said, “For this season, my journey has been quite good throughout this season. From round one until now, I only missed one podium at the Sepang round but the next rounds all went well. I was able to defend my position at the top. I would like to say a huge thank you to my team, my crew and my family for the support they have given me.”

CP125 Category

Md Izam Ikmal of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing delivered an impressive performance in the CP125 category, taking the pole position with a qualifying lap of 46.024 seconds.

Izam capitalized on a strong start to maintain P1, eventually opening a gap in the final lap to secure the win with a time of 12:20.461. Honda KC Racing’s Irfan Haykal took second place while Castrol Power1 Honda Yuzy Racing’s Haziq Hamdan claimed third.

Izam shared, “First of all, I want to thank my team. The race was quite intense and I also saw that Irfan was quite aggressive. But, I try to maintain the momentum because especially on the wet circuit and avoid any mistakes. Syamil unfortunately could not continue the race. So I tried to take the opportunity to dominate this race. This is my sustenance today and I am very grateful.”

KBS Hero Category

Meanwhile, in the KBS Hero category, Md Adib Arsyad of Yamaha Estremo 27 Racing clinched a win on his home turf. After a competitive qualifying session, Adib started from the second grid and maintained a steady pace throughout the race.

In a tight final lap, Adib seized P1 with a time of 9:44.940. Farres Putra from Petronas Sprinta Yamaha–31 Racing finished second at 9:45.133, with Akif Abdullah from Honda KC Racing taking third at 9:45.391.

Adib commented, “Winning in my birthplace is a dream come true. Last season, I finished tenth, so this is a big improvement. In the last lap, I thought that Imah Fahmi would try to overtake me as he has done several times. Nevertheless, I maintained my momentum and controlled my riding technique. I thank my friends and family for being here today for their support.”

The ninth round of the Petronas MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship provided an unforgettable weekend at Medini Iskandar City Circuit, setting the stage for the season finale at Stadium Negeri Batu Kawan, Penang this end of the month with heightened excitement for the final battles and crowning moments.
