Sepang Circuit hosts Malaysia Superbike Championship Round 2 with intense competition and high-speed action this weekend.

Among the standout competitors is Abdullah Qayyum, a formidable force hailing from the NS1 Racing Team.

Qayyum excels in Berjaya Sompo Yamaha Y16ZR, leading with 34 points in a commanding performance. His path to success included a standout win in Race 2, showcasing his exceptional skills and unwavering commitment.

Notably, Qayyum is not limited to just one racing category. He also participates in the CP125 race category of the PETRONAS Malaysian Cub Prix Championship for the Tekhne Yamaha Team.

In Round 1, he showcased his competitiveness despite not securing a top-five spot in the first race. However, Qayyum’s unwavering resolve and a strategic shift in Race 2 propelled him to victory.

Competing alongside 32 other riders in the race category is no easy feat. It demands precision, consistency, and unwavering focus.

Qayyum, however, has proven himself to be exemplary, maintaining his position among the frontrunners while strategically outmaneuvering his rivals.

Qayyum noted distinct disparities between Y16ZR and CP125, citing variations in machines and rider skill sets in the two categories.

Also, the difference in the track layout. With CP125, it is usually on a smaller circuit while Y16ZR is on a much wider circuit.

Despite the challenges, Qayyum employs a strategic approach to stay competitive and remain among the front group of riders.

Looking ahead, Qayyum remains focused on his goals, emphasizing the importance of attitude and dedication. “My goal moving forward would be to have the right attitude. One thing I will always remember is that it is just a game and winning or losing is not the most important thing.

Instead, giving the best in what I do is what matters most. As a rider, the preparations for the race, especially having the right mental frame and strategy are very important.”

Reflecting on his experience in Round 1, Qayyum shared, “In Race 1 of Round 1, I failed to manage my pace and positioned myself in the front group, but after the race, I recalled the mistakes and tried to understand where it went wrong.

I let go of that disappointment and went on with Race 2 with better focus and strategy and managed to make it to the top spot.”

Abdullah Qayyum’s affinity for the Sepang circuit is palpable. He appreciates the advantages it offers, noting, “I have always enjoyed riding on the Sepang circuit. The advantage would be the capacity of the circuit that allows us to fight competitively in large groups.”

However, he remains cognizant of the risks, saying, “The disadvantage though would be losing the opportunity to get to the front group if we crash or face difficulty with the machine.”

As Round 2 of the Malaysia Superbike Championship approaches, fans can expect Abdullah Qayyum to continue his quest for excellence and strive for even better results.

With his talent, determination, and the lessons learned from his past races, Qayyum is undoubtedly a rising star to watch in the world of superbike racing
