Kawasaki has performed well with the transformation of the Z900 to the Z900RS, and fans have been urging for more. This time, the Japanese manufacturer is seemingly coming out with a new bike for 2022. Kawasaki dropped a recent teaser on Youtube, promising a “Retrovulution” soon. Many speculate the new bike to the new Z650 but there has been no hard evidence.

However, according to Cycle World, they have secured the new type-approval documents from Europe that officially lists the Z650RS as an addition to Kawasaki’s range for 2022. This strengthens the rumours and amplifies the excitement of many Kawasaki enthusiasts.

Apart from the bike’s name, the document showcases some key details about the bike such as its weight, dimensions and power. As expected, the numbers are similar to the Z650. Just like its counterpart, the Z650RS is capable of producing 67 hp (50.2kW) at 8,000 rpm and 47 pound-feet of torque at 6,700 rpm. It is important to note, however, that these are European specs. The top speed of the bike caps at 119 mph as well.

Not only is the performance similar, but the machines carry similarities as well. Both bikes have the same tubular steel frame. However, the documents depict a minute difference in wheelbase as the new RS version is 5mm shorter between the axles. It is likely to have a different fork or a revised suspension setup. The Z650RS is around half an inch longer overall, also taller and wider due to the broader bars.

The document shows that the Z650RS has the same part number for its exhaust muffler as the normal Z650. The newer model is approximately 2 pounds lighter than the older model. This may be due to having fewer body panels.

Overall details of the bike remain scarce but Kawasaki is certain that it will be rolling out a retro model very soon.
