Yamaha Motor Malaysia has officially pulled the cover off the updated 2021 Yamaha NVX for the Malaysian market. Here are the details!

Following the launch of the 2021 Yamaha Y16ZR last month, HLYM officially pulls the cover off the 2nd of many 2021 Yamaha models for the Malaysian market. The all-new updated 2021 Yamaha NVX was launched virtually last night. Unlike before, the 2021 Yamaha NVX is now offered two different variants, standard and ABS.

Before we dive into the details, here is the summary of the differences between the 2021 Yamaha NVX standard and the 2021 Yamaha NVX ABS variants. Compared to the standard model, the Yamaha NVX ABS variant gets Yamaha’s Smart Keyless system, ABS, Stop and Start system, and twin rear shocks with remote reservoirs.

Design

Speaking of the 2021 Yamaha NVX range, the model gets a tonne of updates. Starting with the aesthetics, the fairing and headlight design have been revised.  Upfront, the new aerodynamic full fairing design together with the updated LED headlamp unit makes the 2021 NVX look much sleeker. Besides this, the updated side cover design further improves comfort and presence.

Features

Other updates include the addition of Yamaha’s Y-Connect system allows the rider to pair smartphones with the Yamaha NVX to perform various useful functions. In fact, the new 2021 Yamaha NVX is the first model in Malaysia to get this feature. The Y-Connect system works hand in hand with the Y-Connect app and it lets the rider check on vital information such as engine oil levels, battery health checks, fuel consumption, service reminders and many more. The 2021 Yamaha NVX also features a new fully digital LCD instrument panel. With the addition of the Y-Connect system, riders can now receive notifications for messages and missed calls directly on the LCD instrument panel via the Y-Connect app. Overall the integration of the Y-Connect system on a scooter like the NVX makes owning a motorcycle more convenient, smart and fun.

Speaking of other electronics and rider aids, besides the updated twin LED headlamp unit, the model also gets an updated LED taillamp unit that matches the new look. Other features such as a 12v DC socket, Smartkey system and ABS are also found on the new NVX lineup. Please note, the Smart Key system is only available in the ABS variants.*

Engine

Moving to the oily bits, the new 2021 Yamaha NVX is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine with Yamaha’s Blue Core technology and  VVA (variable valve actuation). Mated to an automatic transmission, the 2021 Yamaha NVX pushes 15.18 hp @ 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 13.9 Nm @ 6,500 rpm.

Fuel is now contained in a larger 5.5-litre tank compared to the 4.6-litre tank on the previous model. Combined with the fuel-efficient engine, Yamaha says the new 2021 Yamaha NVX can approximately cover a range of 200km on a full tank. The Stop and Start system which shuts the engine off automatically when the bike is stopped or idling in traffic further improves the fuel efficiency of the bike. The Stop and Start system is only available in the ABS variant.*

Suspension and brakes

In the case of the suspension, telescopic front forks and swing arm mounted twin shocks at the rear take care of suspension duties. Compared to the ordinary rear shocks on the standard NVX, the NVX ABS comes with twin shock absorbers with remote reservoirs which further improves comfort and stability.

Braking is done via hydraulic disc brake up front and drum brake at the rear. On the other hand, the NVX ABS variant with its 230mm front disc and single-channel ABS provides enhanced braking performance under all conditions.

2021 Yamaha NVX price and options in Malaysia

The standard 2021 Yamaha NVX is priced at RM 8,998 meanwhile the 2021 Yamaha ABS variant is priced at RM 10,998 in Malaysia excluding road tax, registration fee and insurance. The standard version is offered in Red and Cyan while the ABS variant is offered in Platinum SE and GP Blue colour options.

Yamaha says the paintwork for the ABS models are specially processed from high-quality aluminium and premium resins for the metallic and matte finish. This is also the first for any Yamaha motorcycle in Malaysia. As for the availability, the 2021 Yamaha NVX is said to be made available at authorised dealers starting May 2021.
