2021 Yamaha MT-09 Details Revealed

2021 Yamaha MT-09 Details Revealed

October 27, 2020

Latest leaked pictures reveal more details of the incoming 2021 Yamaha MT09 ahead of its official launch. The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 receives major design and engine updates!

Update: For the official specification and pricing details, please click here.

Yamaha Motor Europe dropped the new MT teaser video a few days back on their Youtube channel. As it was a teaser, the video didn’t stress much on the exact model, however, the 3 cylinder engine note suggested the bike that’s on the way is the updated Yamaha MT-09 for 2021.

With the official launch just 5 hours away, leaked pictures of the incoming 2021 Yamaha MT-09  have already started circulating on the internet.

At this point, we do not know the official specifications or the exact changes that Yamaha has done to this bike. However, here are a few things we managed to pick up from the latest leaked pictures and recent reports.

The Design

Starting off with the design, the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 receives a major aesthetic update. From the front, the new 2021 Yamaha MT-09 loses the twin headlamp unit in favour of a single LED projector setup with twin vertical LED DRL strips.

Other than this, unlike the side-mounted instrument cluster on the current MT-09, the 2021 MT-09 features a new larger TFT panel that sits just right in the middle. Furthermore, Yamaha has redesigned the fuel tank from bottom-up and added a pair of larger intake on both sides which complements the overall look of the bike.

Aside from this, Yamaha has made some changes in the tail section too. The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 features updated tail lamps as well as a tail-mounted plate holder. Yep, no more swing-arm mounted plate holder, guys.

Chassis and suspension

Now to the chassis and suspension. The 2021 MT-09 gets a new twin-spar frame and swingarm. Sources suggest the new frame could be borrowed from the Yamaha YZF-R6. This means the new MT-09 could weigh a few kgs lighter and have the sharpest handling in the segment. According to reports, the suspension components are expected to be carried forward too.

Engine

Moving on to the engine, aside from the obvious Euro 5 update; sources suggest the 2021 MT-09 could roll in with an enlarged 890cc inline-three cylinder engine. If that’s the cases, mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the new 2021 Yamaha MT-09 would push around 116 hp. Aside from this, given the MT-09 is a Hyper Naked; the bike would feature cornering ABS, traction control and a few riding modes.
