Is Honda working on an electric Honda CB125R?

Is Honda working on an electric Honda CB125R?

The latest patent filed by Honda shows a fully finished Honda CB125R with an electric powerplant.

Honda CB125R Electric

Another patent leak folks! This time we have an electric motorcycle patent from Honda, again. Not an another electric Honda Super Cub this time, but this is just as unique. The current leak is a patent that Honda filed for an electric version of the existing neo-retro Honda CB125R. Below are the details!

Electric Honda CB125R Details

Honda CB125R

As usual, since we only have the leaked patent, for now, we can’t comment much on the numbers. However, we did manage to pull a few things from the images. Looking at the patent, the bike used in the illustration matches the design characteristics of the current Honda CB125R.  The heart of the bike is a small lightweight electric powerplant. Looking at this in detail, by scaling with the size of the actual Honda CB125R, the electric motor looks about the size of a plate. Aside from this, the width of the motor appears to be slim enough to just fit within the smallest CB that’s currently available in the market. Sources also suggest the electric motor looks very similar to the one from the Honda PCX electric scooter.

Aside from the powerplant, everything else, from the suspension to braking system appears to be the same ones from the Honda CB125R. This also includes the chassis, however, if Honda were to roll out this bike there would be alterations done to the frame to fit in the powerplant and batteries as well as the torque from the new powerplant.

Given 80-85% of the components of the bike is already available we believe it wouldn’t take Honda that much of development or production time if they were to make this bike come to life. Aside from this, if the motor is actually derived from the PCX; mix-matching components from different bikes to make a cool electric retro bike actually sounds like a promising idea.
