New Triumph Speed Triple 1160 Spotted Testing!

New Triumph Speed Triple 1160 Spotted Testing!

Recent leaks suggest the upcoming Triumph Speed Triple 1160 is currently going through testing. Is this what we have been waiting for?

Triumph Speed Triple 1160

Back in 2016, Triumph unveiled the Euro 4 compliant Triumph Speed Triple with a 1,050cc engine which received 104 new engine upgrades alongside other enhancements in the other departments.

However, with Europe currently rolling in with stricter Euro 4 emission regulation, manufacturers are required to focus on improving their current fleet of bikes.  This is where the rumours on the new Triumph Speed Triple 1160 comes in. According to Rideapart and other recent rumours, engineers at Triumph have gone back to the blackboard to develop a bigger Speed Triple with a 1160cc engine. This Triumph Speed Triple 1160 has been spotted testing by RideApart just a few days ago and here is everything we know so far.

Design and Chassis

Looking at the leak, just like the last facelift, the new Triumph Speed Triple 1160 also receives its own facelift. The overall design of the headlamp unit follows Triumph’s signature praying mantis design. Given it’s a newer model, it comes in with a more aggressive-looking headlamp unit; (very similar to the ones on the recently launched 765 RS, R and S but bigger and meaner).  As for the rear, the tail is much slimmer and pointier which gives it a much sleeker profile.

Moving on, the twin-par aluminium frame looks very similar to the previous 1050 Triple; however, if you look closely there are some changes. The new chassis structure has a pillar at the back to support the frame. Aside from this, the single-sided swingarm has been redesigned too. On top of this, the new Triple 1160’s exhaust is much shorter, which ends just under the rider’s feet. From the looks of the forks, Triumph worked on the suspension department too.

Engine

One thing that confirms the new 1,160cc triple engine is this latest spy shots. Looking at the spy shots and comparing with the 1,050cc mill, you can clearly see the shape and size of the engine is different and bigger. Aside from this, the new crankcase and the clutch cover also hint the new Triple would more likely feature a bigger engine.

Wondering when we can expect Triumph to officially launch this mode? Well, we think Triumph would launch this bike by September or by the end of this year at least.
