New Triumph Tiger 900 caught testing

New Triumph Tiger 900 caught testing

The British manufacturer will make big changes to its trail. The new Triumph Tiger 900 was caught testing before being officially revealed in November.

Although Triumph is under our radar because of all the new models they’re launching, like the Rocket 3 or the Daytona Moto2 Limited Edition, the truth is that in Hinckley they believe they need to renew other models. One such model is the Tiger.

The Tiger 800 has been one of the most popular bikes in Triumph line-up. But after so many years, the popular Tiger will get a brand-new engine and other special features.

The reality is that from 2020 onwards, the Tiger will no longer have the 800 on the name but a 900. The new Triumph Tiger 900 caught testing in Spain a few days ago shows that this isn’t just a name change.

The engine grows up to 900 cc and it’s based on the same three-cylinder of the Street Triple. Engine internals have been reworked for the bigger displacement. With specific components made for the Tiger 900, engine power should be a little over 100 hp.

With a completely new electronic package, the new Triumph Tiger 900 arrives with a new design. Much more aggressive design, sportier even, this trail will arrive in different equipment levels. Some for the road, others for off-road.

The chassis has also been reworked. For example, the frame, which continues to be a steel tube structure, gets a new rear sub-frame bolted to it. On the previous model, the sub-frame was welded to the main frame. This allows for a quick and easy replacement of the sub-frame in case of damage.

And for those that want to ride the Tiger 900 off-road, Triumph worked closely with Showa to develop new suspensions. The Tiger 900 off-road variant, seen in these spy photos, features long-stroke suspensions.

With spoked wheels and knobbed tyres the new Tiger 900 should be a fantastic bike to ride in the dirt!

The new Triumph Tiger 900 will be revealed during next EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show in November.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
