Patent application shows details of the Indian FTR1200 street tracker

Patent application shows details of the Indian FTR1200 street tracker

Although Indian Motorcycles have already made us happy by announcing the arrival of the FTR1200, a street track derived from the factory race bike FTR750 that Indian races in American Flat Track championship – and with great results we might add -, we’ve now got new details about the production version we will see in showrooms.

We knew that the FTR1200 would use a steel trellis frame, and the patent application not only confirms that, but it also seems to show that inside the tubular frame this new Indian will give use to the V-Twin engine currently being fitted to the Scout cruiser.

With the looks of a street tracker, and using an exhaust system that ditches the twin elevated silencers in favor of a system very similar to the one Ducati installs on the Monster naked bikes, the rider will find himself on a bike that gives an upright riding position, but still a very race oriented one. Comfort won’t be one of its strong points.

Big wheels (18 and 19 inch), an off-centered rear shock, double brake discs at the front, a fuel tank hidden below the seat and a digital LCD screen instead of the analogic ones from classic Indian motorcycles are some of the details of the FTR1200 street tracker we see in these patent application files.

The new Indian FTR1200 will be shown at the upcoming INTERMOT motorcycle show in Cologne, just a few days from now. So be sure to come back to iMotorbike and get all the information about this and all other new models for 2019.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
