Jorge Lorenzo had a terrible end of what was promising to be a great weekend, and the Spanish Ducati rider had to walk away from last weekend’s Aragon GP with zero points after crashing at the first corner, and worts of all, he now faces a right foot injury which can be problematic in the next race at Buriram, Thailand.
But what seemed just a “normal” crash, is turning into a war between Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez, with the former accusing the champion of being too aggressive and not paying attention to other on track.
After the race hat saw Marquez back to winning days, Lorenzo wasn’t soft on word against his future teammate at Honda
“The way that Marc entered the corner didn’t let me do the corner, and made me go into the dirty part of the track, and to avoid being passed by four or five rider I had to open the throttle while still leaning in the dirty area, and that’s when I lost the rear. I have no intention to go to Race Direction. One of the things that makes me angry is that from the outside no one sees what really happened. From the outside everyone believes it was my fault, and that’s not the case. We had 23 laps to go, we won’t win anything in the first corner, I believe he should have left me more room. You want to be aggressive on the pass? OK, but leave me room. I hope he comes to me to apologize, but most of all I hope he doesn’t do it anymore, because then I’ll have to ride in a way I don’t like to ride”, said Lorenzo at the Ducati Motorhome.
On his side, Marc Marquez replies to the Lorenzo’s accusations without being too aggressive
“It’s clear that I went wide, I was barking on the dirty part on the inside and the front locked, I was using the hard tyre. That’s when I saw Lorenzo on the outside and closing his line. To avoid any contact, I let go of the brakes so it would only be me going wide. It’s a race incident, and when you go to the dirty part of the track, with all that adrenaline of the race start, you need to have to keep calm and don’t open the throttle so fast. It was a similar situation as what happened with me and Dovizioso. This track has this particularity, and it’s easy to crash if you go to the dirty parts”, said Marquez to the journalists after knowing what Lorenzo had said minutes before.
This exchange in arguments between Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo might heat up in the next few races, although Lorenzo is now injured so he might not be as fast as Marquez to be able to fight his Honda rival on track.
