Red-flag drama, wind gusts, and unpredictable grip define a turbulent weekend at Silverstone for the  Factory Ducati duo.

The Ducati Lenovo Team wrapped up a dramatic weekend at the 2025 British Grand Prix with a podium finish from Marc Márquez, who crossed the line third after a red-flagged and restarted 19-lap race at Silverstone. Teammate Francesco Bagnaia, however, suffered a crash on lap four and failed to finish.

The race was initially red-flagged on lap three due to oil on the track, following an incident involving Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaró. According to MotoGP regulations, the restart included all riders, even those who had crashed earlier, allowing Márquez to rejoin the grid despite a fall while leading on lap two of the original race.

At the restart, Márquez regained his composure and gradually fought his way back through the field, securing third place and valuable championship points. Bagnaia, who had made a strong start and was showing early pace, lost ground quickly before crashing out in the gravel at Copse corner during the fourth lap.

Reflecting on the race, Márquez admitted that the red flag gave him a second chance: “It was a lucky day for us, following the mistake in the first race. The crash was caused by a sudden burst of wind — when I released the brakes, it simply pushed me off. I was quite tense at the restart because with these unpredictable gusts, the risk of crashing is always just around the corner. The feeling in the first race was incredible, but in the second, I didn’t have the same confidence with the front-end. Despite some issues today, we still managed to finish on the podium and extend our championship lead, so overall, I’m happy.”

Bagnaia, meanwhile, was left frustrated by a lack of front-end grip after the restart: “I felt good in the first race, but at the restart, despite only changing the rear tyre, the feeling wasn’t the same. I struggled and then crashed in a very unusual way, so we need to figure out what happened. We still have some work to do to resolve these issues, which were more evident this weekend than in previous rounds.”

With seven rounds now complete, Marc Márquez leads the championship standings with 196 points, holding a 24-point advantage over his brother Alex. Bagnaia stays third overall with 124 points. The Ducati Lenovo Team remains at the top of the teams’ standings with 320 points, while Ducati continues to dominate the manufacturers’ table with 245 points.

The team will return to the track for the eighth round of the season at MotorLand Aragón in Spain, beginning June 8.
