Undoubtedly, the name Doohan is closely linked with MotoGP greatness, thanks to Mick Doohan’s five 500cc World Championship titles.

But his son, Jack Doohan, has taken a different route, choosing a career in car racing and is set to make his Formula 1 debut next year.

The 21-year-old Australian was announced on Friday, August 23rd, as a driver for Alpine, a team he has been part of through their academy and where he has been a reserve driver since last year.

He is expected to replace French driver Esteban Ocon, who will depart from Alpine at the end of the 2024 season when his contract expires.

Jack has also participated in six F1 practice sessions. His strong track record includes finishing second in Formula 3 in 2021 and third in Formula 2 last year.

The 21-Year-Old Australian Joins Alpine F1 Team, Marking a New Chapter in the Doohan Family’s Racing Legacy

This year, with little left to prove or learn in the feeder series, Jack became a full-time reserve driver, also working in the simulator to help develop the French team’s car. He will continue these roles for the rest of the season, in addition to participating in tests with a 2022 model.

According to motorcyclesport.net, Jack Doohan expressed his excitement in a statement: “I am so happy to secure promotion into a full-time race seat in 2025 with Alpine F1 Team. I am very grateful for the trust and belief by the team’s senior management.”

“There is so much work ahead to be prepared and ready, and I will give my best in the meantime to absorb as much information and knowledge to be ready for the step up. It’s exceptionally satisfying to be the first graduate of the Alpine Academy to be in a race seat with the team.”

“I’m extremely thankful to those who supported me along the way to make this a reality. It’s an exciting moment, a proud day for my family, and I look forward to taking it all in and pushing hard behind the scenes.”

The father-son duo’s bond with high-speed adrenaline racing runs deep, almost as if it’s in their blood, setting the stage for another chapter of greatness in motorsports history.
