Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has just launched the MT-09 naked motorcycle for the Malaysian market. Priced from RM47,388 (including GST), the “ultimate streetfighter” now comes equipped with a host of features that should help the Yamaha MT-09 in its battle against the likes of the Kawasaki Z900 and Honda CB650F.
For starters, the new motorcycle features a quick shifter, a slip-assist clutch, traction control, ABS for both front and rear brakes and a fully adjustable suspension system with 41 mm upside-down forks which includes compression damping adjustment.
Elsewhere, the 2018 Yamaha MT-09 also comes with full LED headlights and rear LED taillights. Colour choices for the Yamaha MT-09 include Night Fluo (a sort of matte grey with fluorescent highlights) and Tech Black. The MT-09 comes equipped with Yamaha’s D-Mode function that allows riders to select three different riding modes.
As for the engine itself, the 2018 Yamaha MT-09 is powered by a 847 cc, inline three-cylinder powerplant that puts out a total of 115 hp at 10,000 rpm and 87.5 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. Power gets to the ground via a six-speed gearbox – final drive is via chain.
Dimensions include a quoted seat height of 820 mm and a minimum ground clearance of 135 mm. The Yamaha MT-09 weighs 193 kg with a full tank of fuel and fluids. Speaking of fuel, the tank possesses a maximum capacity of 14 litres.
