A total of 147 motorcycles were seized while 827 summonses were issued during a joint enforcement operation targeting motorcycle-related offences in Kuala Lumpur, last weekend.

The operation, which began at around 2am in Jalan Ampang, involved enforcement officers from the police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Of the 827 summonses issued, 671 were issued by JSPT, while the remaining 156 were issued by JPJ.

The operation also uncovered several offences involving motorcycle registration plates, including incomplete registration numbers and motorcycles displaying different registration numbers at the front and rear. Two individuals were also arrested under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further investigation.

According to JSPT Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, the enforcement operation focused on various motorcycle-related offences, including the use of falsified registration numbers and riding without a valid licence, Bernama reported.

“Most of the motorcycle riders inspected were aged between 14 and 20. Among the reasons given was that they were not yet old enough to obtain a licence, while some said they had gone out at night simply to spend time riding around,” he said during a press conference following the operation.

Zamzuri also urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s activities and movements, particularly at night, to prevent them from engaging in activities that could put themselves and other road users at risk.

“Being responsible and practising good judgement on the road not only protects themselves, but can also save the lives of other road users,” he said.
