CFMoto is making a big move in the world of motorcycle racing. After gaining experience in Grand Prix racing through its partnership with the Aspar Team, the brand is now preparing to step into the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK). The highlight of this new chapter is the V4 SR-RR prototype, which was first shown at EICMA and is expected to become CFMoto’s future superbike.

To push this project forward, CFMoto has chosen an experienced rider, Matteo Ferrari, as its main test rider. Ferrari is a former MotoE champion and has raced in Moto3, MotoE, and WorldSSP. He has already tested the V4 SR-RR and is expected to play a major role in its development.

“It’s a great challenge and an incredible opportunity,” Ferrari said. “CFMoto has a long-term vision and clear ambition. I’m excited to start working on this project.”

Ferrari’s job is not just to test the motorcycle. He will help guide engineers, develop the bike’s performance, and shape CFMoto’s first-ever superbike for competition.

Building a Strong Team With Ducati Expertise

CFMoto is also strengthening its technical team. Reports suggest that the manufacturer has recruited a chief chassis designer from Ducati, one of the strongest brands in WSBK. This shows how serious CFMoto is about building a competitive motorcycle.

This strategy is similar to what brands like KTM, Ducati, and Aprilia have done in the past, using racing to improve their production models and boost brand image. With China’s growing motorcycle market, CFMoto has the resources and ambition to follow the same path.

Developing the V4 SR-RR for Superbike Competition

Creating a competitive WSBK machine from nearly zero is a major challenge. CFMoto must develop:

  • A powerful V4 engine to compete with Ducati, BMW, and Yamaha
  • Advanced electronics and aerodynamics
  • A new chassis setup for stability and sharp handling

The current prototype produces around 210 hp, but the WSBK version will require even more refinement.

One of the most exciting features is the possibility of active aerodynamics. If used on the race bike, CFMoto could become one of the first teams in WorldSBK to run this technology. It would be a major step forward and could change the future of the series.

Expected Timeline and Paddock Reactions

The first full track tests should begin in the second half of 2026. If all goes well, CFMoto may join the WorldSBK grid in 2027. Inside the paddock, many teams see the project as positive. One team manager shared with GP One that CFMoto has a solid long-term plan and chose a smart and capable rider in Ferrari.

A New Challenger Emerges

Although the brand recently faced criticism for charging some users to access app features, CFMoto is still gaining momentum in the performance world. With a strong rider, new engineers, and a powerful V4 platform, CFMoto is getting closer to joining the top level of Superbike racing.

Fans can expect a new and exciting competitor on the grid soon. A fresh challenge from the East is cooking up, and it has the potential to shake up the entire championship.
