Pol Espargaró will make his return to the MotoGP grid at the upcoming Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix, stepping in for Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) as the Spaniard continues his recovery from a shoulder injury sustained at the Sachsenring.

The decision comes as Viñales and the team mutually agreed to prioritise rehabilitation to regain full strength in his left shoulder, following a demanding series of races in recent weeks.

For Espargaró, this marks his third race outing of the 2025 season, having already filled in for Viñales in Czechia and Hungary earlier this year. The Red Bull KTM test rider, known for his deep experience with the Austrian manufacturer, will now head into the challenging flyaway rounds at Phillip Island and Sepang.

“As I said before, having to replace a teammate due to injury is not something I particularly enjoy,” said Pol Espargaró. “Maverick has made a huge effort to keep racing, so I truly hope this break helps him recover faster and return soon, because we really need him in KTM. I’m happy to rejoin my Tech3 family and will do my best to support the project, help develop the bike, and bring home good results. Phillip Island is a circuit I love, even if it’s been a while since I last rode there.”

Aki Ajo, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager, also expressed gratitude for Espargaró’s continued support: “Thanks to Pol again for stepping in for Maverick, especially for two overseas races. Maverick’s recovery was progressing well, but the tight calendar took a toll, so it’s normal he needs more time off the bike. We hope to see him return when he feels ready to compete at his best. In the meantime, Pol is the ideal rider, experienced, dedicated, and a great character to have on the grid.”

With Espargaró back in the saddle, KTM looks to maintain its strong development momentum through the remaining rounds, while Viñales focuses on returning in full strength ahead of the season finale.
