If you’re in the market for a good-looking 150cc sportbike that’s got solid performance without breaking the bank, the Yamaha YZF-R15 is definitely a top pick! Whether you’re young or old, this bike fits just about anyone. With its sporty design and beginner-friendly features, the R15 has become a fan favourite among Malaysians.

Let’s take a closer look at what makes this entry-level sportbike so special!

Yamaha YZF-R15 Review

Sporty Design, Just Like a Race Bike

From a distance, the R15 already looks like a race machine. Its design is inspired by bigger Yamaha models like the R1 and R6. The fuel tank has a capacity of 11 litres, and features like the mock air intake cover give it that aggressive racing vibe.

If you want to feel like a racer, the R15 definitely delivers that experience. Just a heads-up, though, the riding position is a bit aggressive. The clip-on handlebars are low, and the seat leans forward, so you’ll need to hunch over a bit like you’re mid-race. It might not be the most comfortable for long rides, but for sporty, agile riding, it’s perfect.

155cc Engine with VVA Technology

The R15 is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that packs a punch! It comes with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, which gives you smooth power delivery both at low and high RPMs. It produces 19 hp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. The VVA kicks in at 7,000 rpm, so you can feel the acceleration climb all the way to the top end.

Fun fact: the engine is similar to what you find in scooters like the Yamaha NMAX and NVX 155, but it’s been tuned for a more linear and sportier power delivery. It might not use Yamaha’s Blue Core fuel-saving tech, but the YZF-R15 still offers impressive performance for a 150cc machine.

Yamaha YZF-R15 Review

Yamaha YZF-R15 Specifications:

  • Engine: 155cc, Single-Cylinder, Liquid-Cooled, 4-Stroke, SOHC, 4-Valve, VVA
  • Power: 19 hp and 14.2 Nm torque
  • Weight: 137 kg
  • Fuel Tank: 11 Litres
  • Front Suspension: Telescopic Fork (Inverted)
  • Rear Suspension: Monoshock
  • Front Tyre: 100/80 – 17M/C 52P
  • Rear Tyre: 140/70 – 17M/C 66S

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Yamaha YZF-R15 is easily one of the most worthwhile 150cc sportbikes out there! With a reasonable price tag, aggressive looks, and solid performance, it’s great for both beginners and experienced riders.

If you want a sportbike that gives you the thrill of racing without the hefty price tag, the YZF-R15 is the one to go for. Get your hands on the R15 today and feel the difference yourself!
