The MAXXESS by BMRT3D Pirelli Motul team has strengthened its lineup ahead of its second season in Formula EWC, signing former world champion Mathieu Gines and ex-Moto2 rider Isaac Viñales to partner Belgian rider Loris Cresson. The trio aims to challenge factory teams and fight for podium finishes in the 2024 endurance racing season.

Gines, the 2014 FIM Endurance World Champion, joins the French squad after a partial season away from the EWC. The 36-year-old returned at last year’s Bol d’Or, helping Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers CMS Motostore secure victory in the Superstock category. Despite previously considering retirement, Gines admitted the thrill of competition keeps drawing him back.

“Every time I say I will stop when I’m not so fast, but last year we won Stock in the Bol d’Or, we won Barcelona, and I won the last sprint race in France,” Gines said. “So I said, ‘It’s not the time to stop.’ We’re like junkies—it’s difficult to quit.”

 Loris Cresson

Viñales, 31, brings growing endurance racing experience to the team, while 26-year-old Cresson remains optimistic about their prospects. “Mathieu has a lot of experience in endurance, Isaac starts to be a top rider in endurance so it will be really nice for us and the top five during all the races will be the main target,” Cresson said. “We will be one of the top private teams, and our target is to finish in the top five consistently. The factory teams are tough to beat, but we’ll push for a podium.”

The team’s first major test comes at the season-opening 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans (17-20 April), followed by the 8 Hours of Spa Motos (6-7 June), Cresson’s home race. “Because it’s an eight-hour race, maybe we can do even better than the top five,” Cresson added. “Spa is an amazing track, and I hope we can deliver a great race for the fans.”

With a mix of youth and experience, MAXXESS by BMRT3D Pirelli Motul is poised to make waves in this year’s endurance championship.
