Despite recent turbulence at KTM’s headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria, the partnership between KTM and German tuning house Brabus remains strong. A major sign of this ongoing collaboration emerged with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approving the 2025 Brabus 1400 R, confirming that the project is still moving forward.
A New Successor to the Brabus 1300 R
Trademark filings made over a year ago hinted at KTM and Brabus expanding their partnership with the introduction of the Brabus 1400 R Rocket, Brabus 1400 R Tailor Made, and Brabus 1400 R Signature models. These filings suggested a successor to the Brabus 1300 R. We can expect the new bike to be based on the 1390 Super Duke R, moving on from the previous 1290 platform.
However, KTM’s recent financial restructuring and entry into self-administration cast doubts over whether the 1400 R would materialize. Brabus fueled speculation with a teaser at its Signature Night 2024 event in October. It showcased a blacked-out motorcycle with an aggressive headlight design and Tron-inspired lighting accents.

EPA Approval Confirms Progress
KTM and Brabus’ silence regarding the 1400 R’s development left many wondering about its fate. However, the latest EPA certification update on March 11, 2025, suggests that the project is still on track. The 1400 R was listed alongside the 2025 KTM 1390 Super Duke R, indicating that both motorcycles share emissions certification data. This further confirms that the Brabus model will be based on KTM’s latest hyper-naked platform.
What to Expect From the Brabus 1400 R
Though official specifications remain under wraps, the Brabus 1400 R is expected to feature:
- 1390cc V-twin engine, delivering over 190 horsepower
- Brabus-exclusive styling, likely incorporating carbon fibre bodywork, bespoke wheels, and luxury finishes
- Upgraded suspension and high-performance braking components
- Signature Brabus touches, including premium leather seating, custom exhaust, and an aggressive stance

Spring 2025 Reveal?
Brabus has hinted at a “Spring 25” reveal via Instagram, meaning an official announcement could come within the next few months. Given Brabus’ reputation for ultra-limited, high-end performance machines, the Brabus 1400 R is likely to be a rare and exclusive offering, much like its 1300 R predecessor.
While KTM navigates its internal restructuring, the Brabus 1400 R’s EPA approval signals that the high-performance naked bike project is very much alive. For fans of exotic motorcycles and bespoke craftsmanship, this collaboration is shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases of 2025.
