KTM is preparing for a major reveal at this year’s EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show. The Austrian manufacturer will showcase a complete overhaul of its popular 125 and 390 ranges. The updates will feature significant technical, structural, and design improvements across its small-displacement motorcycles. This upgrade aims to enhance KTM’s offerings in a competitive segment. The new models promise advanced technology, refined engineering, and increased versatility. KTM is targeting riders of all levels with these improvements, aiming for broader appeal and enhanced performance.

Enhanced Power and Performance in the New 390 Range

The spotlight at EICMA will likely fall on the updated 390 series, now featuring three distinct variants: the Adventure R, Enduro R, and SMC R. Central to the upgrades is a reengineered single-cylinder engine, which has increased displacement from 373 cc to 399 cc. This upgrade aligns the engine with the stringent Euro5+ emission standard, delivering a cleaner yet more powerful ride. The revised engine now boasts 45 horsepower, a one-horsepower boost from previous models, ensuring these models are not only compliant with modern emissions standards but also cater to riders seeking a more dynamic experience.

New Models in the 125 cc Segment

In the 125 cc category, KTM will unveil two models, the Enduro R and SMC R. The bikes are constructed on a brand-new tubular steel frame. These bikes will feature high-quality components akin to their larger counterparts, including a premium aluminium swingarm. The structural enhancements not only improve durability but also offer a refined balance of lightness and rigidity, ensuring a nimble and responsive ride that appeals to both novice and seasoned riders.

Key Features and Upgraded Equipment

The new Adventure R, designed for versatility across terrains, is especially noteworthy in this release. Equipped with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels, it delivers a commanding presence on and off the road. An 885 mm seat height and an extended front suspension travel of 230 mm provide a comfortable and controlled ride even on rugged trails. KTM has also prioritized safety in the Adventure R model, incorporating advanced features such as cornering ABS, traction control, and a TFT instrument panel, giving riders enhanced confidence and control.

Rumours from within the industry also hint at the possible arrival of an Adventure X version within the 390 families, though KTM has yet to confirm specific details on this model.

Manufacturing Partnership and Availability

The production of these revamped models will continue in India, where KTM maintains a strategic partnership with Bajaj. This collaboration ensures the brand’s high-quality standards while keeping costs accessible. Prototypes of these new models have already been spotted in testing, hinting at their imminent arrival in European dealerships by the spring of 2025. Pricing is expected to be close to current levels, making these advanced models a competitive choice in the small-displacement market.

Conclusion: A New Era for KTM in Small-Displacement Motorcycles

This overhaul marks a big step forward for KTM in small-displacement motorcycles. The new 125 and 390 ranges bring state-of-the-art technology and adaptable features. These updates offer a strong blend of innovation, accessibility, and versatility. KTM aims to appeal to a wide range of riders, from beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. The improvements maintain KTM’s reputation for quality and performance in an accessible package.
