In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Kevin Benavides emerged victorious on the grueling third stage of the 2024 Dakar Rally. Riding his KTM 450 RALLY, the Argentinian rider’s exceptional performance propelled him to the top of the timesheets, securing his first stage win of the competition. Benavides now sits in sixth place in the provisional overall standings.

The challenging stage covered a total distance of 733 kilometres from Al Duwadimi to Al Salamiya. The entire rally demanded a timed special of 438 kilometres. This leg marked the first half of the event’s opening marathon stage. It allowed just two hours of assistance before riders embarked on a final liaison to a separate bivouac for the night.

Starting the day from the 19th position due to a slight setback on the previous day, Benavides understood the importance of a strong performance. He focused on navigation and took the effort to learn from his past mistakes. The reigning Dakar Rally Champion swiftly climbed to second on the timesheets at the first checkpoint. He maintained this momentum, ultimately claiming victory. This outstanding result elevated him to sixth in the provisional overall standings.

Commenting on his success, Kevin Benavides said, “A much better day for me today. After making a couple of mistakes yesterday, I set off with the plan to focus more on my navigation. It definitely paid off – I’m happy with my pace today and the result.”

Meanwhile, Toby Price, after an eventful day in the Saudi desert, finished the stage in ninth place. Price faced some challenges throughout the stage. He encountered a small early mistake and stopped to assist two different riders with mechanical issues. The Australian rider showcased resilience and determination. Price now holds the seventh position overall, just one place behind teammate Benavides.

Toby Price reflected on his day, stating, “It’s been a bit of an up and down day, but we’re here in the bivouac now, the bike is good, and I’m ready for more of the same tomorrow.”

In the provisional standings after three stages, Hero’s Ross Branch leads the pack, followed by Jose Ignacio Cornejo (Honda) and Ricky Brabec (Honda). KTM’s Kevin Benavides and Toby Price occupy the sixth and seventh positions, respectively. Both of them now set the stage for an intense battle in the upcoming stages of the Dakar Rally.
