With nine races taken place so far, the 2021 MotoGP season has gotten off to a great start. Initially scheduled for 23 races, the season has since narrowed to a shorter calendar with the cancellation of the Grands Prix in Japan, Finland, and Australia. This time, the FIM, IRTA, and Dorna Sports have announced that the season will see the cancellation of the OR Thailand Grand Prix as well.

Initially planned to take place from the 15th to the 17th of October, the Thai GP was set to be held at the Buriram International Circuit. The Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on many races this year despite efforts to improve sanitary precautions and social distancing alongside the vaccination process. In spite of that, the resulting restrictions have obliged the cancellation of the event.

The FIM MotoGP World Championship looks forward to returning to race in front of the incredibly passionate Buriram crowd in 2022. A replacement event is currently under consideration. The authorities will be publishing any updates regarding a possible substitute as soon as available.

It has yet to be announced when the Gran Premio de la República Argentina will be taking place. The Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo will be hosting the Argentina GP this year.

Stay tuned for further updates.
