2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Revealed

February 23, 2021

Harley-Davidson has just officially pulled the cover off the much anticipated 2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Adventure Tourer.

2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 & Pan America 1250 Special

2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 & Pan America 1250 Special

Milwaukee’s first adventure tourer, the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 has officially landed! First showcased in 2018 with the Bronx, Pan America made quite a buzz in the motor world as the idea of an adventure tourer was a bold new direction for Harley as a brand. Harley calls its Pan America range, “the explore-it-all machine” which consists of 2 variants: standard Pan America 1250 and top of the range Pan America 1250 Special. Regardless of the variant, the Pan America is a rugged, powerful and technologically advanced machine. Whether it’s for road use or off-road use, given the price point we think Harley has spec’d these bikes generously. The Pan America 1250 is definitely going to spice up the already existing ADV tourer segment. Without further ado, let’s look at the all-new Harley Davidson Pan America 1250 in detail.

2021 Harley Davidson Pan America 1250 & Harley Davidson Pan America 1250 Special

Design

Starting with the design, H-D Pan America brings a fresh look to the Adventure Touring motorcycle segment. Harley says both Pan America 1250 & Pan America 1250 Special have been designed and engineered to embrace real-life adventure and the ” go-anywhere look” reinforces the capability of the bike.

For example, upfront the front, the Pan America models get a horizontal LED headlamp unit that ensures optimal illumination on both road and offroad.  Besides this, from the front windshield to the aggressive overall bodywork and integrated luggage mounts, Pan America is designed in a way to ensure form, functionality and comfort.

Frame, Wheels and tyres

On the inside, built around a  MIG-welded HSLA steel-trellis front frame, forged aluminium mid-frame, and one-piece cast aluminium swingarm; the standard Pan America 1250 weighs 242kg wet meanwhile the top-spec Pan America 1250 Special weighs 258kg wet. As for the wheels and tyres, the Pan America rolls in with Cast aluminium wheels [48.26cm front and a 43.18cm rear] wrapped around by Michelin Scorcher Adventure tyres. Michelin Anakee Wild tyres with an aggressive “knobby” tread pattern are also available under Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories for riders who seek maximum off-road traction and styling.

Engine

In the case of the powerplant, both the Pan America 1250 models feature Harley’s new liquid-cooled 1,250cc V-Twin Revolution Max 1250 engine. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox,  the Pan America 1250 makes 150hp @ 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 127.4hp / 94 ft-lbs @ 6,750 RPM.

Brakes and suspension

Braking duties are taken care of by a new Brembo radially mounted monoblock four-piston calliper with twin 320mm discs at the front and a single-piston calliper with 280mm disc diameter at the rear. Both the model are equpieed with 2 channel ABS as well.

Moving on to the suspension, premium passive front and rear suspension that is fully adjustable for pre-load and compression/rebound damping take care of suspension duties. Upfront the model gets SHOWA 1 by 147mm inverted cartridge fork and a SHOWA Piggyback reservoir shock with adjustable hydraulic preload at the rear.

Electronics and Rider Aids

Last but not least, electronics and rider aids. In the case of electronics, the Pan America 1250 models get: full LED lighting, six-axis IMU and a 17.2cm TFT touchscreen smart instrument cluster that supports infotainment generated by the rider’s Bluetooth-equipped mobile device.

As for the rider aids, the model rolls in with an array of impressive features such as Cornering Enhanced Electronically Linked Braking, Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System, Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System, Cornering Enhanced Drag-Torque Slip Control System, Cruise Control and Hill Hold Control. Five ride modes are available on the base model (4 are pre-programmed and one can be customized). Meanwhile, the Pan America 1250 Special has two additional modes that can be customized by the rider.
